I would book with this hotel again - hopefully the housekeeping issues will be addressed.
Liked: Front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Disliked: Poor service from housekeeping staff; room was not cleaned and then after requesting service they only did a partial clean.

A True Old West Classic
Liked: This place was perhaps the most pleasant surprise of any US hotel I've ever booked on this site. It was built in 1911 as the place to be in Cheyenne right across from the train station. It now serves as much as a museum as a hotel, and my wife and I spent two hours wandering around the first and second floor public areas looking at all the classic memorabilia they have on display. Our room was huge--almost like a small apartment, and it was a great blend of classic decor with just the right modern updates. If you like beer and good food, there is a brewery across the street in the train station that is highly recommended.
Disliked: Some reviewers have mentioned things like breakfast not being served and other things relating to the facilities not being ultra-modern. There are plenty of Holiday Inn Express type hotels in town, but if you want a unique Old West experience, you can't go wrong with this place. Just know some things will be different from what a hotel off the interstate built in the last thirty years will be like. The one authentic issue I will mention is that we stayed there on a Friday night, and the locals love cruising around in their noisy vehicles. If you want to avoid that, ask for a room not adjacent to the street. There are plenty of those.

Historic and enchanting.
Liked: The old hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas with each floor filled with the ambience of a classic western luxury hotel. Dated? Yes, but lovingly maintained. Mark, the desk manager, concierge, tour director and hotel historian made our overnight stay extra special. We loved it!!!
Disliked: The coffee at the morning buffet.

Good
Liked: Good location, next to the main restaurants and attractions in town. Free parking, not on the property. Room size is OK.
Disliked: It looks old. The lobby is old but cute, but the rooms would need some renovations for sure.

Get to know the real...
Liked: This historic hotel is well situated to downtown Cheyenne. One is within walking distance of a number of restaurants and entertainment venues etc. Being a historic hotel it still maintains much of that "old world" charm of original materials and architectural features. The staff was super friendly (one evening the front desk manager shared with us a number of stories about the hotel including the "secret" tunnels that run through the city and that are still present but now walled off (for safety) as well as a "ghost story". The hotel also boasts a small display/museum about its history if one is interested. The lobby features a mosaic of the known solar system at the time (8 planets - 1910) which ironically did not include Pluto, but then Pluto was demoted as a planet so now it is once again accurate) (see photos)If you want to learn more about Cheyenne and get a feel for what is like to be here in past years I would definitely opt for this vs some sterile, lifeless chain hotel.
Disliked: Now with all the above said on this hotel's charm, I must admit it is long overdue for a "revitalization" particularly in the rooms (well I can only speak to the one room we stayed in of course). It appears (and they report) it was last updated in 2002... and it shows. 22 years is a long time in an industry where the product is used on an almost daily basis. Now don't get me wrong, it is all clean and such and fully functional (indeed the shower has good pressure even if the hardware is from 2002), it's just that the materials are... well used. In a conversation with an employee they did mention this is on the drawing board, but because it is on an official list of historic places apparently the process is even more arduous than it would normally be as everything must be "approved" by some non-ownership authority to ensure the updates keep with the spirit of the original structure.
