Perfect. From lovely hosts, to...
Liked: I stayed for 5nights as a solo traveler and I was glad I chose this B&B.From friendly hosts, to perfect cooked breakfasts and porridge, and access to excellent walks (my particular interest). It was all just lovely.I am a very slow walker and managed to walk from the valley up Sugar Loaf (via Abergavenny, and the Vineyard) and Blorenge (via Oak Lane), (including lots of stops to look at the view/eat), allowing one day to do each hill with a late-ish start of about 10am. Hitting the peaks around 2pm. Getting back to the farm about 4-6pm (allowing a bit of time to meander about on the various hill paths before making the way back, bearing in mind Sugar Loaf is a bit higher/further). These are long hikes of about 12-14miles a good way upward, and some of it is rather steep so even coming down isn’t very fast - but if you take it slow it was very enjoyable and a lovely walk - lots of sheep and pig farms, wildlife, and streams etc. Shorter routes from about 3.5miles are available if you take a car and park in the higher car parks nearer the peaks. But I like the full walks. There are lots of other walks and hills too and I’m sure I will return to climb those at some stage.Carol also kindly gave me a lift over to the Big Pit National Coal Museum one day - and if you find time I do recommend the Jobaknock tour of the mine - only £5 (best book in advance day before to be sure of a time). Good way to spend an hour. The rest of the museum is free. All that, plus you get to stay on a working farm and Carol and the farm hands were kind enough to show me the new calf’s and cows being milked by the ‘free to choose’ method (a robot milking system meaning they decide when they wish to be milked - very interesting)! There is an outdoor chair/table area where you can look out over the fields toward Blorenge - at dusk the bats came out. Which was nice.
Disliked: To me everything was perfect. But bear in mind it is a dairy farm, so there is pretty much always something going on, and cows do have their distinct aroma. Which I personally find a nice smell reminiscent of the countryside. I’d suggest wellies, although Carol did kindly lend me a pair to go look at the cows. There are some bus stops, but do check the timetables if you plan to use them. The routes are a bit long to get not very far. I’d probably plan to use taxis to go anywhere other than Abergavenny (which is in easy walk distance) if your time is short.

Cosy and comfortable B&B in...
Liked: We were visiting Abergavenny for a nearby wedding and we were so glad to have booked Hardwick Farm as our accommodation. Carol our host was so welcoming, friendly and made us feel right at home. Beautiful views in a peaceful spot, a huge comfortable bed, very warm and cosy room, lovely hot shower and delicious Welsh cakes and a home cooked breakfast each morning, what more could we ask for! Carol was also really helpful at providing us with local taxi numbers as we left it quite late to sort our transport to the wedding which was a big help! We really enjoyed our stay, would recommend Hardwick Farm to others and we will definitely be back if ever in the area. Thank you again Carol!

Splendid.
Liked: A splendid farmhouse B&B. We could not have been made more welcome, from the Welsh cakes and tea on arrival, to the attentive service at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended.

Great stay
Liked: We spent 3 lovely nights at Hardwick farm, nothing was too much trouble for Carol the host.On arrival she made us both tea and coffee also some nice warm Welsh cakes which was welcome after a long drive. The room we were in was spotless and had a lovely big comfy bed, the breakfast that we had was very nice freshly cooked and plenty of choice , I can recommend the poached eggs, and again nothing was too much trouble for Carol. We would definitely stay here again. Just over a mile outside Abergavenny so its easy to get into town , we used a taxi . While you are in the area visit Big Pit its very interesting.
