Disappointing! Not up to par...

Liked: The location was very good.The bed was comfortable.The male staff on duty when we checked in was very polite and greeted us in a very nice manner. I think it was Edward.Coffee and tea was always available.The pool was well maintained and clean, with trowels supplied.
Disliked: On our first night we found the wall thermostat for the HEAT / AC unit did not work. The room was extremely hot. We told the front desk staff about it the next morning but no one came to our room. Later in the day the room was still hot and the the front desk staff told us that they knew the wall thermostat did not work and we should use the one built into the heat/AC unit. We found over the few days that even this thermostat only worked on "fan" mode. No one came to the room to look at it.We were told at check-in that as is normal now, we would not get daily servicing of the room unless requested. Suddenly one afternoon on the second day of our stay we were just getting dressed and the door burst open! Apologies were shouted out that they did not think we were in the room and the person quickly left.We have stayed in many Hampton Inn hotels in Canada, and many other hotels around the world. The first morning upon having breakfast we found (with exception of the bacon) it was absolutely horrible. The worst we can remember. Very little of the food would pass as being worth eating. Each morning the eggs were cold and tasted like cardboard. The bread and bagels were very stale. Pancakes and French toast left for hours in the so called "warming trays". They were not at all warm, and all dried up. I made a waffle which I grabbed in my hand and showed the staff how it crumbled into dry sand. I commented to the desk staff how this was the worst "Hampton Inn" breakfast we ever had and the reply was something like "well, it's free!" No one cared. And it's NOT free; we pay for breakfast as part of our room cost. If we need to stay at a hotel in Thunder Bay again, we would not stay at the Hampton Inn. It looks good from the outside and is relatively new, but our recommendation is that you should think of it as a last resort.

Disliked: No early transportation to airport. Flight leaves at 5:00AM NO shuttle or other service before 4:00AM. Not suitable for early travel. Hotel should supply a car service if shuttle not available.

Liked: Comfortable beds, clean for most part. We liked the ease of access to our car and the elevator is speedy from top floor. Staff was very friendly.

Liked: The breakfast was good, with variety. However, I wish the hotel had a restaurant. It was very cold when I was there, and walking to a restaurant was not easy.
