My wife and I had a great stay at the Hampton Inn. They definitely had the best rate in the area. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the Powell BART station which is very convenient getting to and from the airport. The rooms are a little on the small side but manageable. The staff was very friendly and kind. I also would like to single out one employee, Daniel. He went above and beyond to make sure that we knew where everything was in the city, recommended some excellent restaurants, and made sure that our stay in San Francisco was great. I would give Daniel 6 stars. I highly recommend this hotel and I commend Daniel for a job well done.

Very nice facility with comfortable...
Liked: The hotel is very nicely appointed and the rooms were attractive and comfortable. SOME of the staff were quite pleasant and accomodating.
Disliked: The location was concerning. There were many transient persons on both sides of the entryway. There is an entry portico before you can enter the lobby that is supposed to allow you to use an intercom to notify the desk attendant that you have arrived. It did not work. I tried calling on my cell phone which gave me a recording the mailbox for that number was full!!!I ended up having to bang on the glass door to get her attention, all the while leaving my family in the car out front feeling a little unsafe. Upon finally gaining entry she was less than cordial. It took quite a while to get someone to our Suburban to help with the luggage and then take it to the garage. Eventually, the police came on their rounds and cleared out the transient population that had amassed. We were told the next day not walk to the right after leaving the hotel as there is a great deal of homelessness and drug abuse in that direction but everything to the left would be safe. We decided to drive ... they were not kidding! It was, as are most downtown areas a very sad situation. You definitely would not be comfortable on foot.

Hotel and staff are great...
Liked: Close to Moscone Conference Center!!
Disliked: Drug addict / Homeless problem in San Francisco is an epidemic. Unfortunately for the hotel the immediate block towards the Moscone Center and away from the hotel, so as you go left and right from the hotel is continuously filled with people doing DRUGS OPENLY on the sidewalk in front of you. The numbers vary from 5 to 50 people congregating near the hotel doing drugs ALL THE TIME. It is a very sad issue that San Francisco faces but the current situation is extremely bad as the people who are outside the hotel are blatant drugs addicts abusing drugs directly in plain view. Nothing is hidden, pipes are out, blowtorches flaming, people doing drugs every time I passed during a 4 night stay. To be clear, this is not a homeless problem, this is a blatant drug addiction problem by people who are also homeless. One particular night there were 50 people outside on the sidewalk in the direction of the Moscone Center on Mission. It was extremely intimidating to have to pass by a sidewalk full of people using drugs. I walked into the street to get around them. I wish San Francisco luck dealing with this issue but they are failing to deal with it and I have been going to San Francisco for 25 years, the issue is getting worse. From the hotels standpoint the drug addiction problem needs to be addressed by the hotel as I can not recommend staying there to anyone.
