Overall it was a comfortable stay. It's a very nice hotel but they really need to improve the valet parking services.

Liked: Nice, clean room. Very nice staff.
Disliked: No parking lot. $50:00 valet was steep. To make matters worst we waited over 30 minutes at check out for our car.

Hamilton Hotel

Liked: The location is excellent for sight seeing. Five minutes from the White House, ten from the Lincoln Memorial and less than half an hour walk to the Capitol. The nearest Metro station (McPherson Sq) is one block away. We got the Silverline train from the airport straight to the station and walked the block to the hotel. Very easy. Get a Smartrip card ($2..like an Oyster Card) at the airport and top it up as needed. You can use it on the Metro and all the buses...but there aren't that many of either so avoid the $60 a week pass. You won't use it much and it's not refundable. The rooms are large and clean with nice bathrooms and plenty of towels. Beyond that...nothing special. The hotel restaurant is ok. The food is mostly Italian...the service, haphazard...we were not charged for our only breakfast we ate there because they forgot to bring half of it out to us. There is a second fridge for personal items alongside the mini bar fridge and a room safe.DO NOT pick up the boxed snacks. They sit on sensors and they will assume you have eaten them if they are lifted up.You're basically paying for a great location and easy access to all the museums and tourist sights.
Disliked: There isn't much of a night life in the area. There are plenty of restaurants but pubs/bars are scarce. You need to go further afield if you want that. I guess it's because it's the business district as opposed to where people actually live. We got a cab up to the Adams Morgan area (18th st NW) where there was lots of bars, street food, music, etc...the cab only cost $10.We averaged $30 each for breakfast and around $60-$80 each for dinner in the immediate area. I suppose you could find cheaper but we were a bit lazy about it.This hotel is supposedly the 6th best hotel in Washington...not sure what the criteria is for that but certainly the building is lovely and it is situated overlooking one of the few public parks in the city. It's not what I would consider a 4* hotel to be and it's certainly not the cheapest but it's smack bang in the middle of everything, it's clean, well maintained perfectly adequate for the average tourist.I would say, on balance, more of a Sainsbury's than a Waitrose...

Clean, Well-Located Property That's Comfortable...

Liked: The hotel is clean, well-located in central DC within easy walking distance of several metro stops and fairly stylish. It's also a historical property (albeit one that has clearly been updated), which I tend to like.
Disliked: Part of what makes the property special also makes it feel a bit modest, at least in comparison to other hotels in DC. While it is a genuinely historic hotel, it's also comparatively small, which means it lacks many of the amenities and general sense of gradeur that some of DC's other historical hotel exude. The property could probably up its game considerably on this front simply by putting more money into the lobby, which is basically the only public space there is; right now it's clean and stylish, but also fairly spartan. But if it did that, it would probably just result in the place getting more expensive for not much more in the way of amenities or "luxury." So maybe it's ultimately fine, just the way it is.
