Very poor

Very disappointed and undervalued
Liked: The waiting staff faced challenges because more staff and training were needed. Yet, they made commendable efforts to fulfil their duties.
Disliked: Our room had a persistent, musty odour that made relaxing uncomfortable. Upon arriving for breakfast, we noticed the waiting staff clearly struggled. They seemed overwhelmed and needed more training to handle the situation effectively. Guests were left waiting for extended periods, and several were informed that there weren’t enough teapots and coffee pots available for everyone; this created a chaotic atmosphere and led to obvious embarrassment for the staff on duty, who were doing their best under challenging circumstances. To compound the experience, there was no acknowledgement or apology from the manager regarding the poor service, which left us feeling undervalued as customers. The overall experience was disheartening and did not meet our expectations.

Liked it well enough to...
Liked: Large car park. Plenty of space.A charming old property in attractive grounds. Very quiet location. Helpful and friendly receptionists. Our second floor room was comfortable and pleasant with a view over the frontal area towards gardens.English breakfast was generally good. Service was excellent, although it wasn't busy when we ate.Very convenient location for us near Corsham and close enough to relatives in Batheaston. Bradford-on-Avon was an easy drive to see friends there.
Disliked: The wet undulated gravel-over-clay car park surface was messy and puddled, owing to exceptional rainfall that weekend. The bathroom cold water pressure was very low which affected the toilet cistern. Reported it to reception. The small single slice of bacon on the English breakfast was rather mean. No marmalade for the toast on day 2 !

Not somewhere I would easily...
Liked: Location quiet and peaceful, but also very isolated.
Disliked: Earlier "Peter" review written by my daughter, whose room I had also booked. Our room - Garden House room 25 - was badly in need of redecorating. Bed was absolutely dreadful - like sleeping on a camp bed, the mattress was so thin. Bathroom did not look clean.Restaurant staff very thin on the ground, particularly at breakfast time - all very young, all very willing, but not enough of them as they were all multi-tasking between bar, restaurant and reception. Dinner menu was OK but a tad over-priced.

Convenient for a family event,...
Liked: The size of the bath towels was great.
Disliked: The room was tired, old and musty. The curtain was half coming off the rail and the chairs were stained. The en suite was wedged into an old cupboard so your knees were under the sink when sitting on the loo. The shower curtain didn’t fit the shower and blew onto you whilst trying to wash. The chairs and tables in the dining room were stained. The crockery was mismatched. The staff, although polite, were minimal in number and were having to juggle the reception, bar and dining room which meant service was slow and disjointed.

Stunning country hotel and gardens...
Liked: Second time staying at this wonderful hotel, once again chose it for great value, easy road access to Bath, lovely immediate surroundings for long distance running, the great service, countable bed, room and facilities, and really nice breakfast. The team are always friendly, attentive and have a number of vegan options for breakfast. Stunning grounds and gardens to wander around too

Good
Liked: Location, lovely garden surroundings, quiet and peaceful.
Disliked: Over priced drinks, not enough bar staff on the night we stayed. Bar staff member was multitasking elsewhere so we had to wait with other guests for some time to reorder.Breakfast seemed a bit chaotic and very sparse for the price. Second visit and it seemed more chaotic than last time. Breakfast preparation and setup was late for the start of breakfast which delayed order taking etc. Better time management and planning needed. This caused us a bit of stress as we had ongoing schedules.Someone throwing up outside our room door. But attended to quickly by night staff.
