Liked: The setting.
Disliked: The greeting at reception. There was a complete lack of any sort of greeting when we arrived and a rather argumentative member of staff who would be well advised to check a customer’s booking details before making incorrect assumptions. I would be happy to explain to the manager what I experienced if it would help improve things for other customers. The lack of wi-fi in our room. The service in the bar was hit and miss. The application of a service charge that the customer is required to ask to be removed. This practice is wholly unacceptable and puts customers in a very embarrassing position. Presumably, management think customers will just swallow the extra cost rather than ask for the charge to be removed. A double socket outlet in our room that literally came out of the wall when I attempted to pull out a plug. A toilet roll holder hanging loose off the wall. Mould on the bathroom tiling. No anti-slip mat in the bathroom. A door lock that didn’t operate properly, probably because the door knob was loose. Windows that were expected to be held open with a couple of plastic wedges. The windows are very heavy. If the flimsy wedges become dislodged a customer could and probably would suffer serious injury if their hands were under the window at the time. A previous customer had left a wood log on the window board, presumably to prop the window open. Safety issues such as this are totally unacceptable.

Overall it was good, but...

Liked: Excellent location. Lounge/bar areas and garden were all very good. Food was good but limited choices. Most staff were pleasant.
Disliked: The room, we were allocated was at top of building with multiple stairs. Rooms had small areas of damp with black mould coming through.

Disliked: Whilst the breakfast was good, our evening meal was variable. The risotto was stodgy and tasteless and the rice pudding like a glutinous mass. To be fair we didn't tell anyone about the risotto and the waitress happily replaced the rice pudding with an alternative desert.
