Quaint hotel with old world...
Liked: Excellent staff, wonderfully attentive and willing to help, super freindly Beautiful building, lovely gardens with chickensfirst night of stay a fellow was playing the piano in the fireside library sitting areas, wonderful and so nostalgic
Disliked: It was a cold weekend, and my rooms window would not fasten closed, so was always fractionally open, It made the room very cold, the big curtains provided draped over the radiator, so would have blocked most of the heat from the room and let all escape out the opening - not radiated into the room - an unfortunate oversight - I compensated by tucking the curtains behind the radiator as best I could, and up into the window sill - the central heating was working, but had a habit of being fully on, then fully off, and only coming back on again once rooms were fully cooled down and thusly very cold at times - add this to the opened window issue, it meant on my first night I got a back chill which manifest as a very bad back the next day, and on the second night I awoke at 4 am really really cold, even though I had added the extra blanket and such and was in bedclothes - not brilliant as my condition requires I stay warm or get very ill.The restaurant, much lauded, but not very applauded, the food was average at best, I doubt a roux has been there for an age, they would not let pass some of the offings as very underwhelming. The gardens outbuildings were all falling into disrepair and really let the rest of the hotel look down. The internal furnishings of the Hotel were quaint and harking back to an era of splendour, however, yesteryear is just that, and a refresh is now required, to bring back that splendour into today, simple oversights and maintenance by a keen and laser focused eye would do just that, and not in an expensive manner, just dilligence. i know the Hotel is closing for just that so I expect great things are just around the corner.the room rates were a touch expensive for the size and quality of stay - the hotel was all but empty, perhaps a room rate reduction would attract more people in the low season and make the atmosphere return
