Grand Hotel National Luzern, Lucerne

Great location, magestic hotel.

Liked: The hotel is big and spacious and with a nice atmospheric bar, restaurants and other facilities. The rooms were spacious, warm and clean.
Disliked: One of our rooms was on the first level up (level 2) and it there was a private party on at the bar that night that kept us up until 2am with all the noise. I don't think that the hotel was full so I'm not sure given how big and long it is that they needed to put people in the room right above.

A stay that never happened!

Disliked: My wife and I had booked a Classic lakeside room at the hotel in mid January 2024. 4 days before we were due to travel to the National for our 3 day break in September we received an email from the Hotel saying that we had been “bumped” out of the Hotel as the hotel was deemed to be closed for a Private Function.Such actions are not becoming of a supposedly 5* establishment, and quite clearly the decision to forego the loyalty of ourselves and indeed other customers who were also booked into the hotel and also bumped, was dismissed at the expense of presumably greater profitability for the hotel.No way to treat loyal, and repeat Customers.Yes they booked us into another hotel, but it wasn’t our choice of hotel. No exploration of whether there were any particular requirements of ourselves was made, it was simply a decision made by the National. A fait a complis! No assessment or consideration was made of the impact that these late changes had on ourselves as clients. We are both in our late 60’s and we plan and carefully structure all of travel arrangements, but such considerations were dismissed by the National all for the achievement of greater profitability.I repeat again, not becoming of a supposedly 5* establishment. I advise any future Clients to beware of our experience.
