An excellent hotel to make...
Liked: Having visited Santiago de Compostela before we knew that we would have to seek a hotel that was outside the town centre if we wanted secure car parking. Obviously, we would have been delighted to stay at the Parador but the time we would have spent enjoying the hotel did not justify the cost and so we settled on staying at Gran Hotel Los Abetos and it didn't disappoint! Large comfortable room with spacious bathroom made our stay very enjoyable. Ample parking helped. The front garden was worth walking around too. The hotel is within easy reach of the town centre by car. This hotel offered good value for money. Finally, the breakfast was plentiful and varied too. Simply put, no complaints!
Disliked: Nothing, but be mindful the hotel is not located where you could consider walking to the town centre.

Huge disappointment and the worst...
Liked: The property grounds in front of the main building are pretty and well maintained. Free parking.
Disliked: This was our worst hotel experience in 10 years of travel to over 30 countries. The reception staff were rude and dismissive. When I asked to be put in the rooms we had booked, we were told “we are full.” Instead of the light, airy dbl rooms we booked we were given “villa” rooms in the back building. After hauling our bags up 2 flights of steep stone stairs, we had to drag them up another 2 sets of stairs in the units. The glassed in patio was unusable due to a strong smell of cigarette smoke and the room was musty, dark and unpleasant. There is no coffee or tea in the room. I asked again to be moved to the rooms we had booked and that were confirmed and again was told “no” by the women at the front desk. I asked to speak the manager and was told he didn’t work at the hotel. Three large tour buses arrived in the early evening of day one. I emailed Bkng.com and they contacted the management on day two and only then was I given the room I booked in the main building. Once again, I hauled my own bags across two parking lots in order to avoid the steep stone stairs. The other party in the reservation was not moved. The bar service is non-existent. They do not make cocktails or offer table service. We were not offered anything beyond our original order in over 90 minutes. This is a tour bus hotel. We saw at least seven large buses arrive and leave over the 2 days The buses load early in the morning and idle in the parking lot under the room windows. This not a 4 star property. At best, for travellers not part of a tour, it would rate 2.5 stars and only if you book in the main building. However, there is no guarantee you will actually get the room you booked. I don’t know what the welcome or service experience would be for the tour groups. Once can only hope much better! The staff member who eventually moved me was quite nice and he did offer me a choice of 2 rooms but at that point, it was a case of too little, too late.
