Enjoyable Stay in Saratoga Springs...
Liked: Great Location in Saratoga Springs Park. We enjoyed the hiking and exploring the trails of the large State Park. We enjoyed reading about the history of the area. It is fairly close to town with great shops and restaurants within 5 minutes drive. We especially enjoyed Ankara Home, a little linen and bedding shop owned by a local named Roger with great service and information about places to see in town.
Disliked: The Old Historic Gideon Hotel really needs some upgrades and fixing up in the rooms. The hotel was not busy that day we checked in. We were assigned a room with a view out the window of the roof over the restaurant roof. Horrible. We requested a different room and were placed with a view over the front of the hotel so we could atleast see the trees. Breakfast is suppose to be served until 10:30 am but when we arrived at 10, they said the kitchen was closed already. Apparently they had not had any customers that morning. The host was able to talk the kitchen staff into making us our order but limited it to just a few items. The staff were pleasant and talkative but overall did not get a good feel about why we were the only persons to use the restaurant that day. It was October and some of the museum areas were closed and no access, such as the car museum. The local horse racing museum was also closed.

These is a great place...
Liked: The property is beautiful with walking paths, a golf course, and well-manicured grounds. The staff are very accommodating and friendly.
Disliked: Some windows could not be opened due to being painted shut.

Our first-choice place a choice...
Liked: The hotel oozes historic old-world charm with its 1930-era lobby and quaint window displays annd murals along the hallways. The surrounding park is spacious and relaxing, and the proximity to the Roosevelt spa mineral baths (within walking distance) cannot be beat! They ordinarily offer a lavish brunch buffet on Sundays, but it was not available this past weekend due to two large wedding parties, or so we were told. But the a la carte breakfast offerings are ample and tasty too.
Disliked: The rooms are a little dated and not especially elegant given the price, and the bathrooms could use an update, for sure. Also, we were put in a room right around the bend from the elevators (No. 425) and could hear the loud rumble of it going up and down day and night. But the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Would not stay anywhere else up there!

Good
Liked: The location and grounds were spectacular.
Disliked: I could hear everyone talking as they walked by the hallway up to around 1:00 am. In addition, there was a dog in one of the rooms on our floor that was barking and whining for a good part of the night. Needles to say, we did not have a good night sleep.
