Liked: Set in a friendly little Village with great cafés and a 2 minute walk to the coastline.Outlook was pleasant albeit very public if choose to sit out on deck.Initial Guest orientation was friendly Heated towel rail was great - for recycling towelsFree WiFiHouse Restaurant downstairs for evening
Disliked: Upon arrival after long drive from Auckland, I drove past the Hotel and couldn’t fathom out where the Reception area was as looked like a Pub. I realised I had to initially park on street to check in, however no parking spots available due to Friday afternoon - Hotel Bar was busy. Streams of traffic travelling through this main thoroughfare to add to problem. Not a pleasant first impression.Confusing Reception area - in a busy Bar and had to ask a Bar person where to check in.No obvious “Host” upon arrival.Had to find an unmarked driveway on an adjacent street to access carpark at rear of Hotel.Adjacent to the main trunk line - noisy bells, whistling sound as train approached, hooting - freight trains rattling through as well.Room had no privacy blinds/filters and upstairs opposite the bustling cafés. Had to pull heavy curtains across to get changed, otherwise there was a keen audience! No Cooling system so my Room was very stuffy with no airflow. Had to run a fan during day and night.Contrary to Room Information Folder, my room was not automatically serviced every day, and nobody knocked to ask.No obvious place to get rid of trashNo “Bathroom Amenities” supplied as advertised - liquid soap supplied and shampoo (no conditioner) No tissues.Old worn out thin towels supplied.White mugs in cupboard had tea stains from previous guestsParking behind hotel was tight and only 3 car spaces for hotel guests! A large block of apartments directly behind and common driveway access was shared by guests access from Wellington St. Told I couldn’t park outside Hotel on street. To get directly across the street to Cafés etc, before 10am, Guests are forced to walk out the back of Hotel via carpark driveway entrance on side street, as Hotel Bar and Restaurant downstairs was closed and access door locked. Not explained at check in. Not convenient if you have difficulty with mobility.
