First class all the way. My first stay there was in 1970 ($45/night) - was excellent then and remains the same, if not better. The Tonga room is awesome.
Liked: Everything.
Disliked: Nothing.

Nice, but not always convenient...
Liked: Room was very comfortable, view was great. Nice big bath tub to lounge after lots of walking.
Disliked: We were a group of friends and there was really no place to sit and talk. The lobby was full due to Christmas (understandable), but there are no places to sit and have conversations. The bar was either closed or full. Plus, you are located in a food dessert and there is no place to get a light meal in the afternoon because the dining room was only serving special Christmas Tea and room service said it would take at least 2 hours to get food to you. It's a steep walk to/from the hotel and any other food locations are generally a taxi ride away. The one area to gather closed at 10.

Passable
Liked: Size of room is decent.
Disliked: Curtain in the bedroom is broken and we had to sleep with curtain open. The bed is right next to that window and the building next to us can literally see inside.

My favorite hotel in SF!
Liked: The staff were so kind and helpful! The lobby was beautifully decorated for the holidays with a huge life size gingerbread house! Would happily stay at the Fairmont again and again. The location is also perfect for SF. The Fairmont is in a safe, beautiful area. Just up the hill from Union Square.

The Grand Old Lady of...
Liked: Very little. This SF institution as fallen drastically. My family's been staying here since the 40's. The shell is still still lovely.Everything else is average at an inflated price.
Disliked: The dining room has some of the worst food in SF. I was in a very pricy suite. No robe, no slippers, no water. We needed to use the oldest bed, took us 20 min to open it. The mattress was 2" of springs. The maid took 2 of our pillows & never returned them. Wrongfully, we were delivered a plater of pastries with a card for someone else. Plate had been thete all day. We were told to not touch them & they would be taken to the correct room.(not sanitary to say the least). William @ the front door was the only employee with any grace or class. Stay someplace else. This lovely shell of a building is only good for meetings. Cater food from elsewhere. I don't know who owns this "Grand Old Lady of SF", but they should be ashamed of themselves.

The best hotel in SF
Liked: Historic. Beautiful. Upscale. Excellent location. Safe.
Disliked: Somewhat pricey though it’s such an historic property that it is warranted

Service impeccable, loved the feel...
Liked: Authentically rich history, still maintained well, room great size, location excellent
Disliked: V noisy bathroom & aircon but understand why when it’s such an old building

Exceptional
Liked: Really nice hotel with great staff and service. Close to many good restaurants and easy in and out process. Front entrance can get busy due to guests but overall the best hotel I’ve stayed so far in SF

Wedding anniversary stay
Liked: Loved the view from my room!
Disliked: Didn't like that there was no 24 hr restaurant available in the hotel. Wished the Conga Room was open every day.
