First class all the way. My first stay there was in 1970 ($45/night) - was excellent then and remains the same, if not better. The Tonga room is awesome.

Liked: We had a wonderful 3 nights in Fairmont. Upgraded to suite at a discount and it was worth every penny views of SFO were amazing. Staff very helpful and Nob Hill great location and very safe

Beautiful historic hotel with opulent...
Liked: Stunning hotel with a ton of history. Staff were exceptional as always with the Fairmont. Location is fantastic on top of Nob Hill right in the middle of the city. View from our room in the Fremont Suite were exceptional - from the left of the Golden Gate Bridge, panning right to Alcatraz and North Beach, to the right the TransAmerica Building and Bay Bridge. Super sunny and bright. A ton of space and seating areas. Loved the recycling bins and efforts to support sustainability - through glass bottles to paper packaging.

Trying to squeeze extra dollars...
Liked: Helpful lady at the concierge. Nice and elegant entrance and entrance hallway. Friendly porter, William, at the outside. These positive impressions does not nearly way up the feeling of getting into a money squeezing machine, where all that counts is how much extra money you can get from me.
Disliked: I was recommended Fairmont and expected a nice experience. When I checked in I was given a room with no view. Still I paid for a queen room. Then the man at the checkin desk started to say that if I only paid 70 or rather 100 USD extra, I could get a view. "So, did I not get a nice room?" "Have a look and then we can discuss what upgrade option you will want". To me this reads, we want your money. What you have paid is not enough, therefore we give you a shitty room. Which you did. Then, on top of all, wifi was not included for free. Never experienced that before. So a really bad first impression got worse.
