Goldstar stay with the Fairmont...

Constant construction elevator noise spoiled...
Liked: As a tourist I can thoroughly recommend booking the Gold Experience, just select breakfast included, you will be within the top four floors with amazing views. Decent breakfast, evening snacks included and you can help yourself to hot and soft drinks any time of day or night. As we found where ever we stayed in Texas, guests and staff all extremely polite, cleanliness a high priority with very comfortable beds, spacious rooms with lovely bathrooms, generally a higher standard than you'd get in Europe. No charge for late 1pm check out, our car rental commenced 3pm so we checked out at 2pm without extra charge due to making a noise complaint. Without doubt and by some distance, the Austin area easily has the most courteous car drivers I have ever witnessed anywhere in the World.
Disliked: Fairmount Austin chosen for it's close proximity to the airport and Rainey Street. Two nights booked to relax by the lovely pool to recover from jet lag, from this point of view the Hotel failed miserably due to the continuous +90dB screeching noise from the immediate adjacent construction elevators. There are five external elevators in constant use from 6am until 6pm literally across the street giving no more than 30 seconds respite, I timed it. Ok not the Fairmount's fault but private apartments for rent in the area warn of this and their prices affected accordingly. The Fairmount really specializes for business conferences so they are not severely effected by this irritating noise but I would seriously avoid the Rainey Street district if you're a tourist seeking some relaxation. However, this immediate adjacent skyscraper exterior is nearing completion, 2025 it could be a better stay? Sadly the infamous Rainey Street itself is slowly diminishing giving way to numerous sky scraper developments which also blot out over 50% of the river view.Prior to arrival I was offered upgrades but I already had Gold Experience? This was not 100% clear and the fact that I should check-in to concierge floor 35 was completely missed so wasted time queuing in the ground floor lobby, not ideal after 18 hours travelling. I was also looking forward to utilizing the Goalpost Sports bar with it's stunning city view terrace and cigar smoking area, sadly this was completely booked for private functions for the entirety of our stay.

Superb
Liked: The location was great, several restaurants, museums and all kinds of activities to choose from. The hotel is beautiful, the staff was always helpful, the breakfast was delicious with lots of options, also the beds and pillows were great incredibly comfortable.
Disliked: The cost of the parking in the hotel was not specified when I did the reservation. It was very expensive $50.00 per night. Considering the price you pay for the room the parking should be included.

Unnecessary costs and not worth...
Liked: The staff
Disliked: There was not a full-length mirror in the room. They had some additional charges that I felt were not warranted. Also, I ordered 2 teas, which I was charged $24 for.
