Disappointing

Liked: The accommodation is apparently bright and clean
Disliked: My room (no. 5) had an unpleasant musty smell throughout my stay. The entire b&b and room are decorated in an absolutely minimalist manner, with no carpeting and very sparse fittings. This means that every little noise throughout the premises and even in the other rooms is audible. Things were missing from the room (e.g. there was no fridge) and the mechanism to adjust the shower didn't work. There is a step in the bathroom creating two levels which is dangerous and should be clearly marked. I was initially provided with a very thin and uncomfortable single pillow.  The breakfast is very limited and there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.The overall impression is that the accommodation provides an absolute minimum and makes little effort.  

Exceptional

A place lacking of atmosphere...

Liked: The room was really clean and the bathroom was very modern. Breakfast was all right!
Disliked: Unfortunately the room/complex has no atmosphere in my opinion. Everything is new, white and not cosy or romantic. The check-in was not personal as we didn’t see anyone in person. So we felt a bit lost, looking for the right doors. It feels like someone had the space for a B&B, and decorated it with basic items, without having a heart for hospitality and making it a comfortabel place. Our overal experience of the B&B and mostly the vibe of the city made us decide to leave earlier for Taormina.

A Place if You're Stuck

Liked: The rooms are clean, the check in and out was easy with good communication from the host. The photography of the rooms on the site here is very good.
Disliked: It was very loud from street noise, even with windows and shutters closed. You could also hear every word and sound from the room next door, including their night time toilet activities. The child upstairs seemed to be in a good mood and ran and stomped until nearly midnight. Lots of mosquitoes, really the bare minimum provided in the room, and breakfast was bleak. It wasn't what I was expecting, but if you're stuck in Messina because of a train strike, it is a place to spend the night... But maybe not sleep.

Disliked: Check in was confusing, a message beforehand explaining what to do on arrival would have been helpful

Bad

Disliked: Time was specified in advance. As a result, more than an hour stood next to the closed door and waited for the chek in. There was another couple with us, who also waited for the chek in. The apartment was not able to contact. Some of the other guests were able to contact the owner... As a gift received flying insects in the bathroom.

Spacious room,

Liked: The host allowed me to leave my luggage before check-in.Super fresh sheets.
Disliked: No fridge in the room.

Would stay again and recommend

Liked: Good location for messina, walkable into the centre, on street (pay and display) parking right outside and a lovely room for the night.
Disliked: The only downside was that the shower didn’t drain very well and so it did get bit flooded in the bathroom, and the little shower head didn’t work.
