Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: Good location and sea view. Clean bathroom but with strong drain smell.
Disliked: The receptionist doesn't speak English, only one lady speaks good. If you arriving after 8.00 pm you can't get in because receptionist works till 8 pm. The room is very old and quiet cold. No double glazing, the windows with single glass and one of them was broken. The shower is not height adjustable. So if you're short person and you can't get ceiling you can't change water direction. The clothes hanger in a cabinet is very weak and we keep our jackets on armchairs or just on the floor.

Sorry - cannot recommend

Liked: Great location and sea view if you pay the £20 supplement.. Relatively good value
Disliked: I don't like doing this but I really cannot recommend this hotel. On our arrival, we had to sign a behavioural contract with sanctions listed- we are 60 somethings! The room was ok but the beds were uncomfortable and we didn't sleep well. The hotel has been graded 1 for food hygiene (requires major improvement). The breakfast - Continental - was basic and the dining area was draughty and uncomfortable. The hotel itself needs a lot of refurbishment. It is relatively cheap - and I appreciate that restoring it is a big and expensive task- but nonetheless the hoteliers have to do better, even at the smaller things that don't cost much, if they are going to earn repeat business

Never book here

Liked: Location was good. Nothing else
Disliked: Reception staff unhelpful and rude.Smelt of sewage as soon as we walked in even worse in the allocated room. Carpets are threadbare and curtains in hall hung by nails. We walked straight to Reception to say we couldn't stay here, all she kept saying is she would change our room I don't think changing the room was the answer. We was very disappointed with what we saw and would certainly not recommend here. This was booked through booking.com and we asked how we could be refunded but she struggled her shoulders and said we probably won't or we could. The only thing she gave us was a phone number to ring which we rang 3 times with no joy. We filled out a form to say we wasn't happy and she said she will sort it. We was left walking up the road to other hotels to see if anyone could fit us in for our 3 day stay.

Great location, great staff, comfortable,...

Liked: The hotel is in a great location, right on the sea front. The hotel is obviously going through a refurbishment. But that doesn’t effect your stay. The room we stayed in was comfortable and very clean. The staff were very helpful. Continental Breakfast was included in our stay price. We couldn’t fault our stay. Well done guys
Disliked: We couldn’t fault our stay.

The cheap price reflects the...

Liked: We liked the fact that it was easy to find and close to the pier. Was reasonable size room
Disliked: Everything. Damp peeling walls in corridor. Damp patches on room ceiling. Bed was a divan with piece of wood screwed onto it and all the fabric of it was stained. Curtains were I'll fitting. Floors where uneven. Staff didn't really bother with us. Could here tapping all night. From 4am you could hear birds on the roof. We assume they where nesting this noise went on until we left at 10.15am. Pictures on booking. Com where far more appealing than what the rooms actually looked like.

Hygiene needs improving

Disliked: The room was filthy when we arrived. There were bodily fluids on the throw pillows, blanket, carpets, every chair and the Tv. The wall was so damp it was crumbling away and there were hand prints all over the windows. There was a big blood stain in the hallway and a random curtain pinned to the wall to cover up that it was crumbling away. Our door didn’t lock properly. There were cigarette burns, makeup marks, hair from 4 different people and a shoe print in the bed. The room smelled like cigarettes and the bathroom had a horrific smell. When we were walking through the hallway I nearly fell through the floorboards on the way to our room. The radiator was set to full but the dial was broken so the room was like a sauna with no way to regulate the heat. We took photos of everything and went straight back downstairs to ask for a refund as we didn’t think the room had been cleaned at all. The man at the desk was lovely and really helpful but probably the only good thing about this hotel.

Friendly sea front value for...

Liked: This is the second time I have stayed here. The hotel is basic but well located being right on the promenade and near to main bus stops and within walking distance of the railway station. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I am assuming this is a family run hotel. You can get hot porridge and a variety of cooked eggs as part of the breakfast as well as fruit juice, a range of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, bread, toast and preserves. I will stay again.
Disliked: I was in room 302 on the top floor. I could not get the heating to work. Also be aware that there is no lift. The communal areas could do with a clean up and paint job. Some of the carpets on the staircase are quite worn.
