Disliked: You pay nearly 400 to stay and you can't get in the room until 4pm and have to check out at 11AM.

Liked: El Monte is simply lovely. Excellent staff, room was beautiful. We were able to bring our dog (there is a fee).

Wander the lovely grounds, but...

Liked: Beautiful exterior surroundings with charming, often dramatic architectural details. The staff were exceptional. We enjoyed the fireplace in the room.
Disliked: Our room had the huge bathtub right in the room, so far just unusual. But over it was the most hideous big painting of a dark red face with manic eyes staring out! Enough to turn your stomach, and keep you out of that bathtub. The lamps looked like mismatched thrift store rejects. There was no soap dish, and the vessel sink made water splash all over. Finally, the shower had a very attractive pebble floor—which was excruciating for my partner’s neuropathy feet to stand on. Altogether a disappointment.
