Lovely location with good staff...

Liked: Beautiful location and very friendly staff. Very dog friendly and lovely cosy lounge to sit in.
Disliked: The hotel was just a bit tired. We ate there on our first night and felt the food was overpriced for basic bar meals. The breakfast was adequate with plenty of choice of requiring a cooked breakfast. Personally I would have liked more choice of cold food and fruit for breakfast such as cheeses and fresh fruit.

Lovely quiet rural setting, traditional...

Liked: Breakfast was excellent -both the food and the dining room. Bedroom was spacious with a good view. Quiet location, no traffic noise. Wonderful setting beside the River Tweed with walking from the hotel. Comfortable lounge with woodburing stove. Staff all very pleasant and helpful.
Disliked: Room and bathroom would benefit from dusting around and under radiators. One bedroom radiator thermostat was broken making the room too hot. Dinner menu slightly disappointing in terms of choice and quality. Undercooked food had to be sent back but quickly replaced without any fuss.

Somewhat disappointing despite friendly and...

Liked: Staff in the bar, restaurant and at breakfast were all very friendly and helpful. Great location, and very quiet - perfect for a welcome break. Very good breakfast almost made up for the evening dining experience.
Disliked: Both reception staff were mildly grumpy (arrival and departure); water pressure in my room was non-existent and room 220) was much smaller than I was expecting and about a third the size of that allocated to my colleague (208) - despite the fact both rooms were booked and paid for by me and were in my name! TV in the room was smaller than most, and it all felt very cramped.Furnishings were tired - eg holes in the bed base - and the whole hotel feels that it is on the point from turning from 'characterful' to 'run down'. Evening meal was OK but 'restaurant' was very dated - particularly when compared to the breakfast room which was lovely. The hotel seemed to have far nicer rooms available so why not use them?

We decided at short notice...

Liked: The staff were extremely friendly and the hotel was exceptionally dog friendly. I was a perfect place for a short retreat with enough facilities and really nice walks to do without using the car
