Disappointing with so much promise.
Liked: Location , building and architecture, staff and pool. Good choice of gluten free.
Disliked: Food hit and miss with our group . Carpets and chairs a disgrace in the rooms . We asked to move rooms and the 2nd room was not much better . £18 a glass of wine at the bar !!!!!!

Liked: It was full of character and our room was superb comfortable and clean the food was impeccable , good to note they have ev charger too .
Disliked: The only criticism was , they could have spread the dinners apart more one evening as it wasn’t busy . The pool area was extremely busy on Sunday afternoon , more changing cubicles would have been helpful

Lovely countryside getaway, close to...
Liked: A beautifully presented historic house with a pleasant spa. Our accommodation in the coach house was spacious and tastefully decorated. We were lucky enough to have good weather, so enjoyed the walk up to the hotel in the morning through the lovely grounds. The food, particularly at dinner, was very good. Locally sourced produce was imaginatively presented and the menu had something to please everyone. The staff are absolutely delightful: so friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Disliked: The lighting in the main room of the coach house was insufficient, we felt. A shaving mirror in the bathroom would have been appreciated. Rather than tiny tubes of (very nice) toilet products, consider elegant dispensers which are much more eco friendly. Also, a body lotion would be a welcome addition.

A beautiful house that would...
Liked: The food in the restaurant was outstandingly good. The best food in Northumberland over a period of six days. The location and gardens were lovely. The house was extensive with several rooms for relaxing. The spa treatment was very good although the spa facilities ie steam room and sauna were a little tired and didn’t smell that fresh. Very good opera entertainment on our second night although the food was definitely not from the same kitchen as the night before.
Disliked: The staff were not very helpful. I struggled out with four bags whilst my husband went for the car and the reception staff made no effort to help. We waited whilst serving staff found us a table for breakfast in between service. There should have been a member of staff dedicated to seating guests. There were plenty of tables yet people were queuing in the hallway to get in. The library was closed off on both days for a private function so I sat in another sitting room to read listening to the inevitable chatter of those around me who were having tea there. It seamed a shame when the library was promoted as a quiet place to enjoy on the website and yet was unavailable when we got there. The bar staff in the evenings made it almost impossible to get a drink. Three of them behind the bar fussing over things and not serving guests and then disappearing so repeat orders not possible.
