Dovedale Hotel and Restaurant, Grimsby

Like a prison, but cleaner

Liked: Clean, tidy. Good location.
Disliked: Well… where do I start. Booked this hotel around 8pm on the evening as it was a last minute trip to Cleethorpes and was looking for somewhere nice and close. Paid extra for what is advertised as a “jacuzzi bath” and 4 poster bed. On arrival there was no one on reception so unable to collect any keys or enter the property. This wasn’t made clear when booking. Was not allowed to enter property until caretaker got there at 6.30am and handed me the keys. Upon entering the room. Since I’d be left out in the cold all night. I proceed to put the water on for a bath, which was cold. Zero hot water in the room. Given up hope on the bath. And extremely tired I took myself off to bed before checkout. Which is stated is 11am. The bed was squeaky and very uncomfortable. And then to top this whole terrible experience off. I was rudely awaken by 4-5 members of staff entering my room without consent. And telling me I had to leave as there was a leak in the other room which affected my room. And adding to the experience they entered the room Whilst I was not dressed in any attire. Asleep. And got extremely startled. I’m not sure if this is standard practice for this hotel but I find it extremely unprofessional and would advise anyone who is staying here who doesn’t like being on a curfew to maybe try the other more pleasant hotels.

Would happily stay again!

Liked: The room was really clean and well looked after. Perfect for us and our two children and an added bonus that we could take our dog with us.
Disliked: The parking is very restricted because of the way the parking spaces are laid out but due to the lack of space, I understand there’s not much they can do about it. The system they have works well, it just meant we were woken up at 6:30am to move the car.

Great customer service, lovely chef...

Liked: Welcoming and accessible, loved how dog friendly it was. I felt the customer service was really good, the chef at breakfast was a lovely man and I would say the best aspect of our stay.
Disliked: I was really appalled by the cleanliness of the room, the floor was covered in bits, dog hair and what looked like weeks worth of dust. The bedding felt/looked like it may not of been changed between customers as it was covered in hairs and dog hair. There was mucus and other stains on the walls, the remotes to the TV were filthy. It’s a shame the hygiene standards of the room were so poor, as the rest of the hotel communal areas looked well kept.
