Liked: The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The food was plentiful and reasonably priced. My room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.
Disliked: The windows in my room could do with a little attention. It was a shame because it let down the overall impression of the room.

A great venue for a...

Liked: A very good sized room, with all the usual comforts, which was kept warm throughout our November stay. The public areas were very good and welcoming, a good bar area and relaxing seating areas, and a very good restaurant area. The staff service was excellent throughout our stay, you cannot fault the service received and their friendliness. This was an excellent winter break for a few days relaxation in a good community, and within easy reach of the more famous areas of the Lake District National Park. We had good food throughout our stay for both breakfast and our evening meals. We would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
Disliked: We were aware before booking that there were reports of the building looking tired in places and requiring some updates. This is true, but the building is very old and majestic, a wonderful old building in lovely gardens. There are areas which need attention, a good clean up or paint up, but we appreciate this is a continuing on-going theme for such an old building of 124 rooms, with long corridors and old window frames and some rain / damp ingress in areas etc.
