Comfortable, Convenient Cologne stay
Liked: Fantastic location about a 10 min walk from the cathedral and train station in a very walkable neighbourhood with grocery store and restaurants within a 5 min walk. Room was comfortable. We got buffet breakfast at a lovely cafe within a 5 min walk.
Disliked: I wish their had been a fridge in the room.

Avoid.
Liked: The bed was comfy
Disliked: I recently stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cologne from November 22-25, and my experience was extremely frustrating due to poor communication and mishandled payments.First, it was never stated on the booking website that we would have to pay an additional €50 per night as a deposit, which amounted to €150 on top of the €449 for the stay. While we had no issue paying this, as we were assured it would be refunded at check-out, we were frustrated that this fee wasn’t disclosed upfront. It felt like a hidden charge we only learned about upon check-in.At check-in, we were initially charged €150 for the deposit, plus €449 for authorization, totaling €599. We were told this was standard procedure and that the amounts would be refunded or released by the end of our stay. However, when we checked out, they attempted to charge an additional €449 to my account. This was confusing, as we had already been charged €599 earlier (which had not been refunded), and we had been assured that the initial charge was just an authorization. The front office manager explained that there was a “block” on our booking and that the money would be refunded in a few days. A full week passed with no refund, and despite multiple calls and emails to the hotel, I was told they would call me back—yet they never did. I was repeatedly told the issue was on my end, which was not the case. After two weeks of waiting, I finally received a call from the hotel acknowledging that the problem was on their end, and I was due a refund. This was after being told there was no issue on their side and receiving no updates. Two full weeks later, I was finally refunded the €599, but the entire process was ridiculous. I couldn’t use my bank account for two weeks because of their inefficient system, leaving me in a very stressful situation. In total, I was charged €1,048.80—more than double the agreed-upon cost of the stay.

Nice stay near the city...
Liked: Breakfast was extremely busy and thus noisy. However, food never ran out: there’s a good selection of eggs, bacon, bread, dairy, we just missed the tomato/cucumber. No biggy. The hotel is in walking distance of the city center and an U-Bahn which is convenient.Staff is friendly.
Disliked: The room was OK but simple. Only one desk/chair and a sort of stool, so there wasn’t really a way to comfortably sit with two people. A small couch or two normal chairs would have been nice. No mini bar either. Not worth the price that is asked for it.Parking in busy times is a disaster (garage was full, nothing available nearby). Taking reservations would be nice. The bar/restaurant is noisy. When we stayed, there was one group that was enjoying itself - the entire restaurant had to enjoy with them.
