Dilapidated rooms and common areas;...
Liked: I am very torn on how to rate this property. The building and rooms are extremely tired, as I have described in more detail below. However, you could see some effort had been made to replace the curtains and the bathroom was functional. What was the star attraction for us and a complete surprise is how amazing the dinner was. Seriously- the BEST dinner we had in Scotland. The owners son is an amazing chef, and came out to explain the different dishes on the five course dinner menu, and each one was perfection and presented beautifully. It was such a disconnect from the grubby surroundings that we really hope that the building can come up to par with the food. Even the breakfast was perfect, with a fantastic buffet, as well as a great choice on offer from the hot menu. It is almost worth it just for the food. The external environment, of course, is very dramatic, especially with some nice common area views, and loads to look at including seals.
Disliked: As mentioned, this property is extremely tired and needs a lot of work done on it. The first thing that hits you is that it needs to be painted and cleaned externally as it almost looks derelict. All the carpets need to be torn out and redone or new floors put in because the carpets are sticky, dirty and smelly. The windows were rattling in the wind and so we ended up buffering them with coffee packets. Certainly not we would what we would expect for the amount.

Very good
Liked: The location was absolutely beautiful. Very quaint to stay in a working lighthouse. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was great that we could bring our dog.
Disliked: Decor was a little tired and allowances need to be made for the old plumbing, so don't expect a power shower. However this was explained to us and as we were only staying one night it did not detract from an otherwise very enjoyable stay.

Never stayed at a lighthouse.

Disliked: The room was small but only stayed one night. Unfortunately, the light is presently under repair.

Great place for a weekend...
Liked: The location, the food in the restaurant was amazing, the staff were so friendly , the beds were comfortable
Disliked: I didn’t realise i had to mention my dog was coming as the hotel says pet friendly so i had to change bedrooms as they weren’t allowed in the one i booked, we also had to eat in the lounge area and not the restaurant as we had our dog which was fine as it was like a private dinner but I’d recommend letting them know about pets in advance and seeing if you can book the room you want

Great location, lovely staff, but...
Liked: Beautiful location, the room was sea facing and right beneath the lighthouse. The dinner in the hotel restaurant was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly.
Disliked: While not a huge deal, the bathroom being separate from the room was little inconvenient during the night. It was only a few step along the hall so not a big deal. While our meal was lovely it was ridiculously expensive.
