Passable

Liked: The room was big, clean, and the view was breathtaking.Staff, especially reception and bar staff, very good service.
Disliked: However, no hot water from shower and bath water is hot only at certain times. The evening meal was awful. Salmon and potato with wilted greens at £17 should have been edible, at least. This was not. Bones in cod fish meal. Noise from other very loud residents at 2am in the morning. Not what you expect from a relaxing cou try retreat.Bar and restaurant area too small and dark. Only a few rables. Stay was not worth the money we paid. We only paid for the room and view.

Very good

Liked: This is classed as a 3 star hotel, therefore, my grading is based on 3 stars. You will be hard pushed to find better. The building is full of character and the staff are first class. Our short Valentines stay was made more memorable by the staff's hospitality and friendliness. The hotel is located in a beautiful part of Northumberland.
Disliked: There was nothing to not like about this 3 star hotel.

Beautiful location but won't visit...

Liked: One member of staff was lovely a young lady
Disliked: The staff were pleasant, We visited last night as a get away after a stressful xmas. We were left to fend for ourselves, never anyone on reception There was a staff member an older gentleman Sat at the dining table he had been poorly by the looks of it and was falling asleep at a table across from us. It was abit annoying that both the TV and a music station was playing at the same time.As we left the bar to go to our room we almost tripped on the stairs due to I think was a staff or the staff members son leaving a bag and another personal item on the stairs, there was also a smell like a foisty smell from the minute I walked in to the reception. The place was tidy to a degree apart from a section of the bar seemed quite cluttered with paperwork, but didn't seem clean as a professional cleaner myself I noticed this right away. The food was also not worth £15 we had the cheeseburger and as harsh as this sounds a mcdonalds burger is nicer it tasted dry bland over cooked , i don't mean to sound harsh but it just definitely wasn't worth £117 per night We left the same night for that reason and another, due to losing my bank card the payment was unable to come out of my bank at first but full payment has been made to the hotel within a few hours we just won't visit again its sad because the location is beautiful

Not quite the country house...

Liked: Fantastic setting and a beautiful old country house. Great size bedroom and comfy beds.Good cooked breakfast.
Disliked: On arrival we were met with kids watching tv and eating a chippy tea in the reception area Not a great first impression. The toilet in one bathroom hadnt been cleaned, toothpaste splatters left on floor. The shower scolded me and soaked the floor, its actually dangerous, so I had a bath, the water was brown. The bathroom blind was filthy. The pillows were so thin I slept on 4. The bar area is very tatty and not what Id expect in a country house. The corridors constantly smell of cooking and we had kids running up and down outside our room. I think they are catering more for the holiday park guests. We decided to eat out, on return the main door was locked it was 11pm. We banged on the window to be let back in. We were never informed of the door being shut at a certain time. Breakfast in the morning was ok. The cooked breakfast was great but the buffet wasnt up to much, basic cereal , no fruit or yogurt. Cheap bread, cheap tea bags and a dirty fork. This is a beautiful house and its such a shame that it doesnt live up to expectations it could be fantastic.
