Great place to stay when...
Liked: Great location! With in walking distance to all the historic sites, and must try restaurants in downtown. Loved!!! The terrace and its delicious food by a fantastic female chef! The view is amazing and the perfect place to relax with a margarita after visiting the buzzing Zocalo/Templo Mayor. Mouthwatering breakfast!
Disliked: Nothing. But I will mention that it can be a bit noisy if you’re staying in the lower floors due to an independent restaurant operating below. Also, because the hotel seats behind the cathedral in the heart of the Zocalo (main square) access to it could be tricky due to streets being closed. The hotel will guide you and send someone to greet you, as well as helping you to manage Uber.

Beautiful hotel but room for...
Liked: The hotel is absolutely beautifully designed - it is a stunning space. The location right by the historic Zocalo cannot be bettered if you are interested in Mexico City’s ancient sites. Front desk staff are excellent. There are cute shops and cafes in the lobby too. The upstairs roof space is stunning. Cleaning staff were also great. The hotel feels very safe even though it’s in the centre of the city and it is easy to get an Uber from nearby.
Disliked: There is no comfortable seating in the public areas of the hotel - 2 beautiful single chairs dotted about that make you look and feel like a social pariah (see photos). Why not put two or three chairs or sofas in these areas and a little table, so people might have a chat and a drink together? Breakfast was weirdly restricted and awkward and doesn’t feel welcoming or luxurious. Tea water tastes of coffee, only forks given for eating yoghurt (!). A bilingual menu would help because some of the staff don’t speak English (but the menu is in English). Breakfast food is good and the setting is lovely but somehow the whole thing felt like a bit of an ordeal. Often simple things like juice or a piece of toast felt impossible to obtain. Architects and interior designers are not the same as hoteliers. The rooms are a bit over-designed and there are some features (like not having a ceiling on the toilet) that will not be to everyone’s taste. Poor soundproofing at times - although the building is quiet - but especially at 1:30am on a Friday night, when the hotel felt it was still appropriate to be playing loud music in the lobby and staff shouted and moved furniture just yards from the doors to hotel rooms All these points have been made by other reviews on booking.com and not acted upon. Círculo Mexicano could be a fantastic hotel with some small changes made, if the management can take the reviews given here on board and act on them.

A sanctuary of design in...
Liked: A unique boutique hotel. The rooms have been crafted with a mix of local references and Shaker style. Our room was quiet, cool and peaceful. We enjoyed the rooftop barrell jacuzzi with views of the historic part of CDMX. The breakfast was excellent. Thank you to the helpful staff that made our stay extra special.
Disliked: We loved every moment. Even the short walk across the pedestrian-only cobblestone street to the hotel added to the experience.

Beautiful relaxing oasis in a...
Liked: We splurged on the top suite and it was so worth it. Beautifully done, huge bathroom, high arched ceilings, I think the room divider between your sleep and living space is made up of the original stonework from this old building. All the charm you could ask for. I saw ppl in the comments complaining about the bathroom lighting but the room is beautifully lit for ambience and not big florescent lighting, which I appreciated. My husband read aloud short stories from a local writers collection while I took a bath, perfection. Your balcony opens up directly onto the cathedral, and it’s an oasis of crispy white minimalist calm amidst the chaos of Centro Historico. Put on some Spanish guitar music and pretend you’re living in a different time :)
Disliked: Because the street is blocked off from cars and even driving/getting a taxi as close as possible will require slow going down one way streets through throngs of people, it can be a bit chaotic to get to. I was definitely stressed by the time we arrived but then when I entered our room and closed the doors to the bed space which blocked out any lingering sounds from the central open common area, then went on the roof to have a drink and amazing views of the city, that all melted away instantly! Totally worth it but be warned if a little chaos is not your style.

A beautiful boutique hotel but...
Liked: The best part is the service. People are friendly and kind and provide the best service. Also, the breakfasts were delicious, but I recommend taking advantage of the fantastic Mexican gastronomy well-known in Mexico City; the breakfasts were not spectacular. We loved our room. The bed was comfortable, and the room was silent, peaceful, and clean. The best part of the room was the shower; wow, we loved it and wanted to take showers all the time. The pool bar in the roof garden is a beautiful hotel area; we enjoyed some cocktails and delicious food; the pool was very cold and unpleasant to swim or get in.
Disliked: There were many dead cockroaches at the hotel's entrance (we counted 17), and unfortunately, we saw six cockroaches running inside the hotel on the first floor between the restaurant in the lobby and the front desk. The hotel is located exactly next to the Cathedral of Mexico City, and the surroundings are not the safest places for foreign people. The police closed the streets closest to the National Palace and the Cathedral, and we could not drive our car to the hotel. We even had problems walking back to our hotel. The police questioned who we were and did not let us pass on two occasions. When we asked for our taxi to the airport, the police did not allow the cab to access the hotel. We had to walk two blocks at night to get to the cab; it was not safe, and that situation was tiring. The location of the hotel is not the best.
