Disliked: The cabin feeling

Ceiling leak, black mold and...

Liked: It took me a week to feel ok thinking about this place, our experience and to write about it. I just want to give the facts to anyone looking at reviews and wondering if this is a good place to stay. First, the ceiling was leaking. Water dripped right over the bed. It wasn’t a constant leak thankfully but the intermittent drips and wet spot where I was sleeping wasn’t comfortable. When I informed staff he said they were aware of it and were working on it. Second, there was black mold on the ceiling of the bathroom. It was a good amount radiating from the corners and running along the edges. There was also some mold around and in the window sill. Third, the place was dirty overall. Splatters and dirt in the microwave and refrigerator. Mugs left in room for guests had smeared dried food on inside and outside. I did clean a bit of the inside of the mugs before I decided to leave it so the owners could see it. Thick layer of dust, hair covered tray, coffee pot and most electrical cables. When my husband and I used sanitizing wet wipes on all table surfaces and handles each wipe was dark with grime. We are both totally fine with old things, old carpet, old paneling and old furniture, but dirty, leaking and moldy is a whole different thing. I booked this place because of the high scores this place had especially for cleanliness. Now, I’m writing my first negative review ever- and my husband and I travel a lot to all sorts of different places on the cheap. This was bad. I hope my honest review helps others find a more enjoyable stay. I will say I really liked speaking with a lady I think is one of the owners on the phone before we stayed over. She was very kind and helpful.

Relaxing getaway, hit the spot!

Liked: Absolutely wonderful and very helpful staff/owners. Low key, & quite cozy. An aloha vibe meets an ocean cabin vibe. Comfy beds!
Disliked: Not a thing to complain about!

Budget Motel at a budget...

Liked: Chris by the Sea is a little budget Motel that gives you just what you need, a clean bed, clean towels in the bathroom,, and a kitchenette, all at a great price. If you don't need all the fancy bells and whistles, it's a decent place to stay. They'll even play cards with you if you get bored!
Disliked: It's probably 100 years old, so the bathroom could use a little touch up, and be a bit cleaner.

An older, well maintained, quiet...

Liked: The helpfulness and friendliness of the owners, the better than average amenities to enrich value of the usual micro/fridge motel unit (toaster, paper plates, plastic flatware sets), great fridge w/separate freezer section. Ease of access w/parking just outside unit also a plus for us ADA folks.
Disliked: Nothing.

Superb

Good

Liked: good location beach access not far :) everything was nearby.We really enjoyed the morning deer walking on through the parking lot.
Disliked: the odor of first walking in the room, musty but that's to be expected at the ocean in some places i guess.poor internet wifi service, we had to use the hotspots from the cellphone.
