Liked: The Chipeta Inn was my favorite hotel on our 24 day tip through the rockies. Our room was a suite so we entered through a small well designed bedroom into a very large master bedroom. It had a sofa, comfortable chairs, a private deck and a balcony. Our room was made of adobe, had interesting round "corners" smoothed by adobe with artistic inserts-some with stained glass. If you like originally designed rooms you will love the Chipeta. It is a resort so they have their own restaurant which featured a very good guitar player the night we were there. There is a dog park across the street with open views to the mountains. The manager and receptionist carried our luggage up to our rooms when we headed off to dinner.
Disliked: My wife has difficulty walking and you have to go up and down stairs a lot as you move around the resort. We barely made it up three flights of stairs for dinner and breakfast, but we were glad when we got there.

I'll chose a different hotel...

Liked: The staff was pleasant.
Disliked: The room had no table space for a computer or to eat. I could fit one suitcase but it had to be in front of the fireplace. The balcony spa had no step or hand holds to get in. My wife couldn't use it.

Liked: The Adobe styled lodge was very clean with a very nice pool, restaurant and bar. Stay included a free continental breakfast. Room was large and recently remodeled. Bed was very comfortable. Also, room had a large covered patio where we had a nightcap and viewed the bright stars. Thanks Madison and Casandra for your help during my stay. There are a few other restaurants a short walk away. Close to Ouray. Would stay again.

Liked: The location is beautiful with its own breath taking views. You do not need to leave the property to see the beautiful scenery. I highly recommend the bar-top roof for sunset cocktail and dinner.
Disliked: Upon arriving, I realized some major renovations had been taking place. The beloved Tee-Pees for all types of travelers had been removed and replaced by a large open grass area. With so many lush parks near by I can't understand why they got rid of this long standing favorite for returning guests. I also noticed that the new "design" features completely took away the mountain ski lodge vibe previously felt upon entering the main entryway, eating area and common fireplace. The previously fresh made Quiche breakfast was replaced by average grocery store frozen burritos and what you have seen at every continental breakfast since the 90's at a Holiday Inn. Once getting past all of that, I returned to my room after dinner to find that not only the furnace wouldn't turn on, the space heater to be used for spot heating also wasn't working, and the fireplace no longer worked. After waking up at 4:00 AM freezing, I relocated to the couch hoping it would be warmer. It wasn't and I had to leave shaking with chills by 7:35 AM. I never got to use the pool, my favorite feature that is still there, and ended my stay-cation a whole day earlier than planned. The kicker? I am STILL awaiting resolution from this hotel a week later in that they haven't even responded to my multiple attempts at speaking with a manager. This place was once a gem resort and after my last stay I can no longer recommend it to my own traveling guests that come through. Saddened this was my experience and hope the new ownership takes this feedback seriously and understands what this property meant to locals looking for an epic stay cation.
