Disliked: Our room could do with a bit of freshening up, slightly dated feel, but super comfortable

A wonderful stay in a...

Liked: Beautiful location. Cosy, comfortable, open fires, well designed. We loved the coffee table books and board games in the lounges and the comfortable beds and magazines in the rooms. Pool lovely. The food was particularly good. The evening meal was delicious- the spatchcock poussin was to die for
Disliked: It’s a beautiful old building, so some signs of wear in the decoration in the bedrooms. We would have liked some loungers by the pool and for it to be a few degrees warmer.

Fantastic building and location let...

Liked: The hotel is in a great location with lovely grounds and the staff were fantastic . Inside the property has clearly had a lot of money spent in recent times and is 9/10 with a superb pool and everything is very clean and well appointed.
Disliked: Our room was sloping quite badly as old buildings often are and whilst that we great for character it was a little awkward with the floor level changing awkwardly in the bedroom. The bed was so soft it seemed to have no firm edge and coupled with the slope of the room twice in the night I almost fell out of bed as was prone to rolling off the edge.We loved the menu and my wife had a great meal but I had the Ribeye steak, chips, Bernice sauce and sauté mushrooms - firstly the combination was a greasy mess with the chips resembling having been cooked over and over and dripping in oil, the mushrooms again greasy, the steak was touch as old boots and could not be eaten and all this coupled with a butter sauce was just to much but the waiter was very quick to offer a free drink or price reduction which was the right thing to do in the circumstances, but it still left me going to bed hungry.
