Overall I really like this...

Liked: The [included] breakfast was more than adequate for the price. Since completing their rennovations, they have resumed providing a hot breakfast again. I have stayed in other hotels in this city, and the value for money with Casablanca Inn either equals or surpasses those other hotels without a doubt. I traveled with a (large) dog, and it was no issue with the hotel or staff. Definitely a positive feature for the Casabanca Inn, allowing pets! Depsite its location on the main street, the hotel is very quiet. Parking (on site) is a little tight...but I have managed to get myself a parking spot each time I have stayed there. While not in the heart of 'down town', it is still very close (walking distance) to many ammenities such as convenience stores, 7-Eleven, restaurants, bars, gas stations, etc., and the drive to the center of 'down town' is only around 5 -10 minutes, depending on traffic! If traveling with a dog, there is a dog park about 10 - 15 minutes up Pico Rd as well - which is also very close to a grocery store, Walmart, and a multitude of restaurants and other types of businesses (within a huge shopping complex). The beach, along with a train station, is virtually across the road from the hotel (one block down, across the road). I would definitely recommend this hotel, and have personally stayed here multiple times myself.
Disliked: The night staff (when I checked in) were really nice and very friendly... but did forget to bring the extra coffee to my room as they had stated they would when I checked in. Also, parking is very tight, and as the evening moves on there's a good chance all parking spaces could get filled before finding yours. There is no 'designated smoking area', so you have to physically leave the property to have one - which is extremely inconvenient, especially if weather is not favorable/raining.

Disliked: The GM, Kraig, really missed the mark. We arrived early and inquired about early (before 1 pm) check in, as it stated in our reservation. The F/D agent -Mitzi- did a good job explaining that HSKP was short-staffed and no rooms were ready. Then, the GM stepped out of his office to SHOW OFF his hospitality skills and EXCLAIMED: "Check in is a 4 and there is an extra charge if you wanted to check in early!" Those words were uttered in such a bad taste and definitely took everything away from the stay. He made it personal when I should not have EVER been. I really thought about not staying and just leaving if we were not so tired and so far away from Texas. I could have challenged the GM who probably did not even know about being short staffed by accepting to pay extra for early check in... What would he have done? But, that is not my style. The GM must learn that warm hospitality comes with compassion, respect, empathy, professionalism and helpfulness to the guests that pay his check. This message is to remind him of that despite that he saw me when I returned to check in, and stated that "she would be with me shortly." I read his body language and heard his tone to mean that he knew he missed the mark. That's good that he knew that, but this reply and comments will help him REMEMBER to NOT do that for the rest his career.
