Disappointing stay, but the staff...

Liked: The staff were all great, no problems there. It was a nice touch to have Welsh cakes on Reception on St. David’s Day and also to have a male voice choir singing in the afternoon in the reception area. Lovely.
Disliked: The room was decidedly average and in need of an update. The pillows just disappeared into nothing and were quite uncomfortable. The duvet was tucked so hard at the bottom of the bed you had to pull it up and rearrange the sheets each evening, in order to be covered by the duvet! The shower was over the bath - and the bath was tiny - so it was a tight squeeze. The air con didn’t work at all in our room (812) so we had to phone down to Reception and ask for an engineer. Nothing happened for nearly an hour so we rang down again and someone came up. They moved us to a room that was exactly the same across the corridor (although the view was nowhere near as nice) and the controls seemed to work. Unfortunately, we were going to ring down again the following day as it still seemed to not be cooling the room at all, but spotted an engineer in the lift and mentioned this to him. Sure enough, Will and Richard appeared a bit later and made some tweaks (they were very helpful and pleasant). The air con was a bit better after that but still below par. We couldn’t be bothered to push it further. We’d paid for breakfast but only had the choice of a buffet. If you wanted it to be prepared for you, e.g. Eggs Benedict, you had to pay for it. Very disappointing and there wasn’t much choice. No Nutella either! And the coffee was only strong filter coffee, no latte’s etc unless you paid over £4 each. All in all, very sorry but we won’t be coming back as we’ve stayed at better places in Cardiff.
