We wanted a castle experience....

Liked: Beautiful building. Clearly livingly restored. The inside feels very authentic despite the alteration to making it a hotel. Fantastic public rooms. The library is a dream. The shower was strong and hot. Lovely grounds for a walk. Beautiful meal in the bistro. The hot breakfast was very nice.
Disliked: Our room. Paid for a double. Then noticed that there was a Facebook page with a much better deal. Called hotel to ask if I could pay the extra to upgrade but was offered a firm NO. I had checked on the website and didn’t see this offer either. Clearly the most budget room in the hotel. I think this should be pointed out on booking. It should be called a bare minimum budget room double. Separated away from the main areas. No view. The bathroom has a tiny cloak size sink with a huge tap. The room was absolutely roasting. We were above a private area. Could hear doors banging throughout our stay. The fire alarm woke us up at 07:30. (No-one’s fault, would rather have it than not! ) Braakfast was a bit underwhelming. Seemed a bit chaotic but perhaps due to us all being awake at once with the fire alarm… The table seemed a bit makeshift. None of the cereals were labelled. A small carafe of milk was available (not enough for the amount of people) The toaster was broken but we did order from the waitress. The large hot breakfast ashets had detached lids. So when spooning food it was a juggling act with plate, lid & food. We had a meal in the bistro and they forgot to bring the pre-ordered side so we did without. ( these things happen)

Fantastic historic house.

Liked: Fantastic location. Old house with lots of original historic features. Friendly staff. Nice food.
Disliked: Pillows ruined my nights sleep.
