Exceptional

Liked: A complimentary upgrade on our room to a double city room at the front of the hotel. The location was ideal for Buxton Opera House and the breakfast was excellent
Disliked: Extra payment for use of the hotel WiFi in the room. It was free in public areas though.

A royal palace...almost.

Liked: The hotel reception area was tastefully decorated, giving a very festive atmosphere. The room was large, warm and very comfortable. Breakfast was ample with plenty of choices.
Disliked: It was obvious that the room assigned had not been cleaned and serviced when first entered ( we were not early for check-in) We had to go for a walk while it room was cleaned.

Comfortable beds and great night's...

Liked: Choice for breakfast was great,
Disliked: Having to walk across the dining room with hot coffee when it was busy risk of adults and children and chair bumping into you.

Lovely stay, not a great...

Liked: We were upgraded to an executive suite which was lovely. For a very old hotel people should not expect everything to be perfect, but it is beautiful. The bed was really comfy and the room was lovely and warm for the time of year (there was snow outside). The room was lovely and clean and so was the ensuite. a lovely range of toiletries, fridge, dressing gowns and plenty storage. Ironing board and Iron and hairdryer. We had a room with a beautiful view of the town so we could see the Christmas lights. Many of the staff were lovely and helpful. There was a working lift to our floor and the hotel is a stones throw away from the train station and the Opera House. Breakfast was really good with a good choice of English or Continental, cereals and fruit.
Disliked: We were a little disappointed at breakfast. The restaurant was very busy and we were told that there were no more tables for two so would we mind going into the conservatory. We spotted an empty table (2 separate tables next to each other) so asked if we could sit there in the main dining area. The member of staff said he would make it up for us. Another member of staff said directly in front of us "that is it, no more until there are at least 2 tables for 2". I was not impressed that firstly she spoke to the young waiter like that and secondly that she did it right in front of us. We were then disappointed that when we got to the table the cutlery was simply thrown into the middle of the table and we had to set it ourselves. It was only after we had eaten and wanted a coffee that we had to go in search of cups as our table had not been set properly. It was clearly obvious to us that considering the amount of people (which were clearly booked into the hotel for breakfast) there was not enough Staff to cope (2 doing service) which left staff stressed and quite unhelpful. This is my only issue with our stay otherwise it was lovely. Could do with a safety deposit box in the rooms.

Wheelchair users not welcome

Liked: The upgrade rooms were nice and the location was perfect
Disliked: I booked months in advance and requested a wheelchair accessible room. I called the day to check the accessible room was booked. I was told it was. On arrival I was told the only accessible room had been given to another guest. Staff just didn’t understand how wrong this was and how discriminatory this was. If you are in a wheelchair you can’t get up and use a shower or bath. This was the worst hotel experience in terms of customer service ever.

It was for one night...

Liked: Location in centre of town.Breakfast was ok, albeit eggs not fully cooked. Room adequate.
Disliked: Ensuite had a broken glass window and a loose toilet seat.Car park should have a dedicated coach area, as a coach blocks leaving the hotel. Not enough reception staff at busy times.Dining seating not enough for customers.
