Liked: I stayed at the Britannia Wigan Hotel this weekend (29th of March 2025) in room 248. If I’m being kind it might have been one of the worst stays I’ve had in the UK.I will start with the positives.The room was cleanThe beds and pillows were comfortableAll the kettles, teas, coffees, glasses, TV, and furniture were clean and a very good condition.Now the negatives.When I arrived at 13:30, there was no one at the desk that could help me, I was told by a lovely girl that I think was the actually security, that the receptionists were outside smoking. They both saw me walk in while they smoked at the front door, no one came to help while I waited for 5 to 10 minutes for them to finish a cigarette. I understand people need breaks and have a smoke, but I don’t think they should all be out there while I’m waiting. After waiting for them, I told them I am early but the message I got from booking.com said that if I’m early and the room is ready, they can help, but if it’s not ready I may not be able to check in. I was told the room is ready but check in is 3pm and I must pay £10 extra to check into a room that is ready, I decided not to go with the option, and I was extremely happy I didn’t waste another £10 on this room.The light in the bathroom is very bad, felt like it was just permanently dark, I think it’s actually an emergency light and not meant to be used or tried to be used to light up the whole bathroom.The Shower hose is broken by the connection from the tap and this means the shower does not work at all. Very disappointing, considering it’s a very quick and cheap replacement job.The water pressure was also not great and took an age to get enough water in the bath to try wash myself with some lukewarm water.

Liked: Good parking. The reception and public areas are nice.
Disliked: Rooms are dated and smelt weird. Shower had hardly any pressure. This could be a great hotel if it had a refurb. Breakfast set up was odd.
