Disappointing
Liked: The location was convenient and there were views of the harbour
Disliked: The rooms are very run down, the furniture is very scuffed and tattered. Pretty baffling for the price. I have stayed in far better hotels for nearly half the price.

Pathetic experience
Liked: I am writing to formally raise a concern regarding an incident that took place during my recent stay at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel.I checked in on the 6th of April at 7:00 AM after a long 14-hour flight. Due to extreme exhaustion, I went straight to sleep and woke around 6:30 PM. I then attempted to make tea, but unfortunately, I mistakenly poured milk directly into the electric kettle instead of water. This caused smoke to emit, which triggered the fire alarm.Shortly after, the fire response team arrived and conducted a thorough check. They confirmed the smoke was caused by incorrect use of the kettle and that no actual fire or major damage had occurred. A hotel staff member accompanied them and, to my surprise, rudely accused me of smoking in the room. I categorically denied this and requested that they provide evidence before making such accusations. The fire team informed me that, while the hotel policy allows for a potential $500 charge in such situations, they would not be applying any charges in this case as it was clearly an accident. However, shortly afterward, I was shocked to receive a notification that $1,520 had been deducted from my account. When I raised this matter with the reception staff, I was informed that the hotel’s policy allows for such deductions whenever the fire alarm is triggered. I pointed out that the in-room policy states a $500 penalty applies specifically to smoking inside the room, which was not the case here.Despite multiple requests, I was unable to speak with the hotel manager. On four occasions, I waited to meet with them, but was told each time they were unavailable. Eventually, I had to leave due to prior commitments.Later, I managed to meet briefly with Ms. Shanon, Director of Rooms, and explained the entire situation. Unfortunately, she stated that $750 would still be deducted, and no further negotiation was possible.
