A gem in Grasmere

Liked: We had a great stay at Bridge House. The location was top tier: located in the sleepy village of Grasmere, we were close to the Wordsworths' Dove Cottage as well as their graves in the churchyard at St Oswald's, the gingerbread shop, lots of cafes, a few pubs and restaurants, and some fantastic trails. We came from London on the train (so, without a car) and it was easy to get around the Lakes by bus and on foot (for example, we did a 16 mile run to Keswick and then got the X5 bus to the Lakes Distillery for a tour and tasting). There is a bus stop very close to the hotel, outside the school. The staff were incredible, so welcoming and knowledgeable, they were more than happy to give trail advice, check in with how your visit was going, and offer assistance if needed. The breakfast each morning was really good and we often spent some time in the afternoons reading by the fire in the reception area, where coffees and teas were available all day. We also made use of the sister hotel, the Inn, in the evenings for the sauna which is just a few minutes walk away. Our room was great, nicely decorated and a good size, with the river running behind our building which was lovely. A few reviewers disliked having a shower over a bath, but this didn't seem like an issue and the shower itself had good pressure and was hot which are the important things in my mind!
Disliked: The wifi, although available, was a little unreliable and kept disconnecting. Not a deal breaker but something that could be improved!

Late autumn fairytale

Liked: A wonderful stay - loved the interior & exterior, location was also convenient. Unbelievably cozy area next to the reception which has been enhanced with tea, coffee and pastries available (what a must have after a hike). And a fireplace of course. Personnel was very welcoming - a special thanks to the wonderful girls - Amber, Rhian and Sarah. Good breakfast too.

Room was nothing like the...

Liked: The main lobby/restaurant decor, the staff
Disliked: The tiny box room in the “Booking.com” shed. Really claustrophobic set up. The toilet was wedged against a boiling hot radiator that couldn’t be switched off. Really awkward. Disliked having to tell them the exact time you wanted breakfast, then been told that time was gone and you had to go very early. Also I do not know what I want to eat until the day, pre order is not conducive with been on holiday.

Disappointing

Liked: Location great, conservatory area nice for drinks and breakfast, comfy bed free hot drink and scones nice
Disliked: Book in/reception is the corner of the bar as soon as you walk in with no room if anyone else comes in behind you and it just seems a weird set up. No evening meal facilities (missed that little fact before booking), they recommend using the sister hotel “the Inn” but it was full. The breakfast was basic, room smelly and basically the hotel was deserted and lacking atmosphere due to lack of facilities. I read great reviews but I was quite disappointed with the place. Having said that if you want peace and don’t mind hunting an eating place it’s ok.
