Hotel Description
One of Devon's most beautiful wedding venues and bed and breakfast breaks this 14th century castle nestles in a valley surrounded by 30 acres of lush green land. The Exe River runs through the estate offering you the chance to fish or just sit and listen as the river makes its way back to the sea. This is an opportunity not only to be close to nature but to almost touch history: the chapel was built only 30 years after the Normans landed in Britain in the 11th century and stands intact today as probably the oldest 'living' building in Devon. Bickleigh Castle offers bed and breakfast and wedding accommodations with 15 bedrooms including twin double and family rooms available in the newly renovated thatched cottages situated around the castle courtyard. All of the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard.

nice place, but slightly flawed.

Liked: The setting was nice, lovely to see lots of Bats at night.
Disliked: The place really is nice, but could do with a bit of a overhall........ And a deep clean. The Host was very attentive and the continental breakfast was very nice. was also pleasant to see that at breakfast help was on hand if needed but not intrusive. The main issues that myself and my partner found was that for how much you pay we don't feel it fully reflects the cost. Our room, whilst warm, was dusty in places. The bathroom had seen better days. The bed sheet did not fit the mattress properly, and the mattress itself is in need of replacing. In order to iron any clothing, this had to be done in the laundry area, and wasn't available in your actual room, which was a bit of a surprise. Also be aware, the walls are thin, so you can hear pretty much everything the person in the next room is doing. However, we did enjoy our brief stay.

Very great experience.

Liked: We arrived pretty late, but staff was friendly and showed us around, even played with my daughter a bit and handled her, frankly, excessive excitement at being in a castle.
Disliked: Not so much a didn't like, but if you are interested in touring the castle, make sure you sign up for it when you book.

An historic hidden gem

Liked: What a fabulous find! With bad weather forecast we had a late-minute change of plans but wanted to stay somewhere ‘different’ - and this fabulous 1000+ year old gem in the Devonshire countryside was just that! We booked the one suite in the main castle and a twin with huge beds for the adult children - very comfortable all round. Breakfast was hot and hearty and the hosts John and Sarah couldn’t have done more.
Disliked: Nothing - but hope the hot tub is back up and running next time we visit!
