Shabby without the chic

Liked: I guess it doesn’t matter much what I think, this hotel will always be fully booked by tourists, in particular the motorcycling and other holiday guests. I would summarise it as being shabby but without any chic. It’s crying out for a refurbishment - the carpets and other fixtures and fittings are so tired and worn out. I know it’s a casino but I didn’t like the overbearing advertisements tempting me to spend money on the various betting offerings. The food on offer was disappointing - the usual carvery fare and everything with chips. I was disappointed to find shards of glass on my room’s carpet - I cut one of my fingers quite badly on a particularly large piece. I mentioned this to the staff twice and asked if they could sweep the carpet but nothing seemed to be done about itOn the plus side, the rooms have an opening window and radiators that work. The health club facilities are clean and comfortable.A big shout out to the bar staff and the night porter. They were always friendly and efficient. Just goes to show that no matter what other shortcomings a hotel can have, it’s the staff who can really make a difference

Overall, a fabulous stay and...

Liked: Couldn’t fault the cleanliness. Staff were really friendly and attentive. The restaurant was lovely and the food really good.
Disliked: Twin room was a little small for 2 single people - it was a bit dated, but overall still enjoyable. Beds could have been a bit firmer but not too bad.
