Nice cheap hotel with great...

Liked: The room was fairly spacious and really very comfortable, especially for a 2 or 3 star hotel. Great location. Beds were extremely comfortable. Pool looked fabulous -- we didn't use it. Everything was clean and adequately maintained. The breakfast was very good with nice staff who really worked hard to keep things fresh and in supply. Delicious hot meal, not just pastries.
Disliked: There was a funky smell in the room that we eventually got used to, but we thought maybe was there to mask the smell of smoke? The rooms was pretty quiet for being right there close to the pool. Our first two nights were heaven. When the weekend hit, the hotel became over run with families with very loud kids who ran the halls, slammed doors, and really just made it hard to stay in the room. I am a parent, so I can tolerate noise from kids...like the small child next door who cried into the night because he obviously did not want to stay in the hotel. But the parents who let the kids run the halls, then leave their doors open to the hall so they could yell back and forth, needed to be more responsible. The walls and door ended up being thinner than we thought and we could hear everything (of course they were yelling, so...). Eventually someone came -- I assume from the hotel -- and quieted them down after an hour of noise. I know this is not the fault of the hotel but just be aware that because of the location, price and wonderful pool, you may run into similar issues.

Liked: Room was very clean and comfortable. Check in was easy and staff was friendly. Good variety for breakfast.
Disliked: The pillows are like mini pillows and very uncomfortable. They did take away from the comfortableness of the bed. In the pictures it looks like a hotel but most of the rooms have outdoor entrance doors only, more like a motel. No elevator so we had to lug our 50 pound suitcase up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Traffic could be really heavy if coming from downtown San Diego. No water bottle filler and vending machine was out of order so we had no access to water until the breakfast room was open in the morning.
