Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: The setting and gardens, which were spectacular. The bathroom was clean and the shower lovely and powerful.
Disliked: The room was dirty with cobwebs, stained headboard, dirty carpet, and extremely old bed. The bar: grubby and neglected with random junk shop finds and uncomfortable furniture - almost felt like we were in a scene from League of Gentlemen. My brother, who owns pubs in London, didn't finish his Guinness because he didn't trust the cleanliness of the cellar. We were offered food but the dining room was so off-putting we declined. The staff were lovely but the hotel itself felt sadly dated and neglected, which is why we felt it didn't justify the cost of the room

Country House Hotel at budget...

Liked: A fantastic place to relax after a day of work. The lounge area is warm, comfortable and quiet. We have stayed twice in the last week and have booked a longer stay for next week.
Disliked: I was initially put off by the uneven road surface on the approach to the hotel. But once inside it's so much better than similar priced hotels in the Exeter area.

Very good

Liked: Location was stunning, with great views and walks nearby. Excellent value, comfortable room.Bar food was very good. Very friendly and welcoming staff.
Disliked: WiFi was difficult to connect to and dropped out every few minutes. Eventually we couldn't connect at all.The soundproofing between guest rooms is almost nonexistent. We could hear every word of our neighbours conversation.

Lovely warm comfortable room with...

Liked: Love the views, countryside, lovely gardens, the spaciousness, plenty of parking, peaceful relaxing atmosphere, the comfortable white cotton sheets bed, the bath in my room was lovely wide corner bath that was luxury to relax in, the bathroom was spacious and spotlessly clean, the desk for working at was good, the bed side lamps were quality. I had kippers and eggs for breakfast which was a wonderful portion with fresh wedge of lemon and pea curls made this really healthy and delicious. Very good value room price.
Disliked: If there was quality coffee in the morning at breakfast and sour dough toast, I think my experience would have felt 10/10. Cheap sliced bread when there’s so much sour dough available now feels un necessary expense saving and the luxury of sourdough fresh bread would make the works of difference. Arabica bean dark roast coffee and french press at breakfast would make the world of difference to the coffee that tasted like instant from the machine. The evening meal prices are expensive for a two course meal for one person from the standard menu cost about £50 but that might just be what it’s like in UK now.
