AC should be configured to...

Liked: To provide white noise while simultaneously heating the room, I took off the face cover of the AC unit and toggled the switch to Constant Fan (the switch is located just below the control panel). This should probably be the default for all rooms.

Clean room, bad smell, poor...

Liked: Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and the bed was really comfortable.
Disliked: The room had a very strong mold smell. The fridge didn’t work and had mold inside. Almost no water pressure in the shower. There was no housekeeping during my stay. The area was very sketchy and not safe to walk around at night - there were about 20 police cars across the street responding to a crime incident one of the nights I was there. The power went out one night so there was no heating and it was freezing. The location might be good if you want to talk to the Bart station (but wouldn't advise this at night) but otherwise there were no restaurants, cafes or shops within walking distance.

Liked: Staff was friendly and helpful.There was an alert for a civil emergency (earthquake/tsunami) and were able to give me additional information quickly.

Liked: The staff, very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: A bit of molding smell in the room. No appropriate soap/shampoo. Meh hot water.

Disliked: One of the plugs didn't work on the kitchen counter and is there a microwave didn't work

Avoid it if you're staying...

Liked: Price was low for San Francisco area
Disliked: Unfriendly staff behind bullet proof glass, room smelled terribly of smoke, the area is super sketchy full of drug users, destroyed cars, etc.
