Decent hostel for hardy, rugged...
Liked: The location of the hotel is very nice, close to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and some very nice locations in the Fairfax/La Brea area. You're also not far from Hollywood proper and the Walk of Fame (about 15/20 mn once on the bus), which also means from a metro station. Several bus lines nearby will take you to Santa Monica and Venice Beach in about one hour/one hour and a half. There often are e-scooters parked in front to take you places (perfect to go to the many nearby bars on Sans Monica Boulevard). The hostel itself has a number of armchairs, couches and tables to socialize, including the Tiki lounge in the courtyard. Overall nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Disliked: The best I can say is that there are worse hostels. Everything is on the crummy side and not especially clean. The sheets and towels are technically clean but have old stains that won't wash away apparently, so you need to be able to disregard that. The bathroom/toilet was cleaned every day but was still on the mucky side, with hair in the tub and the same overall crumminess. Everything's pretty old there and I suspect the cleaning and dinsinfectant products they use are on the cheap/diluted side. So don't be too keen on hygiene if you want to stay there.Breakfast, unsurprisingly, was barebones, with water instead of milk to eat oats. Otherwise it was muffins, waffles and bread. I also didn't like the fact that we couldn't use the laundryroom before 4 pm. I needed it in the mornings before I left, not at night when I came back (it closes at midnight, but to be fair the staff allowed me extra time to finish my laundry). And I sure didn't like how few power outlets there were in the room, so few that I couldn't charge my phone at night. Finally security should definitely be improved: they say the front door is always locked but that is not true, no code, card or anything is required to get inside, and there's not even always somebody at the entrance desk to see who is coming and going. The only real security is the card required to access dorms. But it's still a legit hostel, and as I said there is worse. It's pretty much ok as a place to sleep in and leave from early in the morning. Overall I still think it's a decent proposition given the low price.
