Ok about average but a...
Liked: The location is great, the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The swimming pool was cold, smaller than expected and the showers didn’t work. The changing rooms had a public swimming feel to them. Our room was roasting hot and the family bunk beds though seem good creaked with every movement making for a restless night: The breakfast was ok a little limited on fruit etc and the cooked was a bit stale. Opted for pouched eggs which were nice.I told the hotel and the restaurant at booking that it was my husband’s birthday but no extra car was taken or measures made. Having stayed at the Winchester spa hotel two weeks ago I would say that was far superior.

Poor value for money compared...
Liked: I'll start by saying the staff were fantastic throughout, very attentive, pleasant and helpful. Location is great, as you'd expect being so close to the centre of the forest. The food was lovely, with a full spread of breakfast options and plenty of it if you wish. The evening meal was also really good, I'd definitely recommend eating in if you haven't got anywhere else to be for the evening. Overall the facilities were pretty good, pool sauna and hot tub were quiet and clean, if a little small.
Disliked: This is where it gets interesting. This hotel really fails with the basics - things I wouldn't have to complain about at a premier inn, let alone an upmarket venue. The room was tired, run down and not great in all honesty. The appliances were held together with electrical tape, damaged and clearly very old. The bathroom was pretty stained and had some signs of long term mold. The bed was two singles zipped together, which is almost always a disaster, and neither of our two separate mattresses were comfortable, nor were the pillows. Cold, non colour matched lighting. And really annoyingly there were no plug sockets anywhere near the bed, which would have been fine in the 1990s (when this room last seems to have been renovated), but these days everyone has a phone, smart watch, headphones etc, and having to charge these on the other side of the room is a pain. The windows failed to close properly, and had obvious signs of condensation and mold. Also, our room faced over the lawn, where the hotel bar downstairs insisted on playing loud music until past 2300, to which our poorly sealed windows made little difference to dampen the sound. To our bemusement, the bar had no music inside, only outside where nobody was listening except the ponies, and anyone unfortunately in a room at the front of the building. Also, the WiFi was awful, honestly useless. We did raise this to staff who said they were looking at getting Starlink, citing the logistics of signal in the forest, but my 4G worked fine in the hotel, so I had to use this instead. This again seems very 1990s, and something that shouldn't be an issue even at a premier Inn, let alone a 4 star hotel. It is a real shame that a hotel in a promising location, with otherwise good facilities and great staff fails to get the basics right of running a hotel. None of these issues could be resolved by staff, even if they would have loved to do so.

Disappointed and mis sold
Liked: Location is lovely. Food quality is very good. Decor is really nice. Piano was playing form 12-3 on a Sunday that was nice too.
Disliked: So the spa is very run down and out dated, it’s busy with only a couple of beds so nowhere to chill out. Mold everywhere, only a couple of people can fit in the sauna. nothing in changing rooms worked. Kids left un attended and making lots of noise and splashing so it isn’t a relaxing spa break like that make out. Tiles missing, very shabby. The room was freezing, we barely slept. We had to sleep with our jumpers on. Check in was meant to be at 3. Wasn’t around until 3:45 we were allowed to get the keys. Some people were offered to sit with a glass of wine for free wine and wait, others weren’t. We weren’t even offered an apology let alone a drink. Some Staff are helpful and great, others not so much. Overall I would not recommend staying here if you have somewhat high expectations because it won’t fulfill them. For the price I feel as though a travel lodge/ premier could offer the same amenities .
