Predatory Staff
Liked: The location of this property is excellent because it is right by the train station. The room itself was small but comfortable and had a small kitchenette. The staff we met on the first day was very nice and helpful but that did not last.
Disliked: When I booked this room, I specifically did not order breakfast because it was too expensive. However, when I checked in, I was asked again if I wanted breakfast and said no, but the person who seemed to be the manager chimed in and said it was included with the stay, so I thanked him and said OK. However, when I checked out a different man was working at the front desk insisted that I pay the €48 for all three of us because this was apparently my mistake. He told me that I should have known what I booked and that it was my fault, and he did not care that his colleague had lied to us and told us that it was included. My friends were leaving for the airport and had used all of their currency so I had to pay for the whole thing. (Keep in mind I paid €48 for two yogurts, two coffees, and a cup of tea .) The clerk did not care for the way I tossed the 50€ bill toward him, and so he threw my change at me (coins, which hurt when they hit my face) and threatened to call the police in addition to denigrating me for crying. It is literally the worst experience, I have ever had in a hotel and I have no doubt that this is a racket this place enacts over and over again. I would not be at all surprised if he pocketed that €50 himself and have no doubt that he’s intimidated other vulnerable travelers (women, from out of the country, traveling alone) into giving him money he was not owed. I also had the sense that because I was a woman traveling alone, and not from Germany, that he believed I had no recourse and that threatening to call the police would scare me enough to give in to his demands. He was also demanding that I leave immediately and telling me to get out, even though my money was still sitting on the counter (had to dump out my wallet to find the money in the first place) or he would call the police when I was simply trying to put it away before I left. This was a really terrible way for my friends to end their trip in Germany and for me to start my day.
