Liked: If you have the unfortunate task of using the Cedar Rapids airport at Christmas time–unfortunate in the sense that whether you will actually depart due to Iowa weather is never certain and the duplicity of the airline industry itself–I recommend that you book a quality night at the Avid hotel. The facility is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is super friendly and willing to go the extra distance to make your stay enjoyable. Plus, my wife loved the breakfast, probably more than one should for your basic continental breakfast, but love is a funny thing.

Disliked: Dirty!! We had long black hairs all over the floor, bed, and shower. It was gross.

Disliked: Short tempered woman at the desk at 5am. No customer service skills and she had probably just clocked in.

Liked: The place was in a great location and was very clean with a great choice of options for breakfast.
Disliked: The elevator was broken while we were there and had people stuck in the elevator. I talked with some people who frequently stayed at this location and said that the elevator has been in bad shape for years. Also, the times posted for their breakfast, and airport shuttle do not match the times they are open. They told us how late the shuttle ran and when we called for a pickup from the airport were told that they left for the night. Luckily the manager called back and gave us a ride.

Liked: Clean, nice, friendly.
Disliked: This probably won’t be able to be fixed, but it was the ONLY thing about the property we didn’t like. There was no freezer compartment in the refrigerator. Guests who need a refrigerator usually have an ice pack to keep in their cooler on the way home. However, at breakfast I told the desk person we had an ice pack we couldn’t refreeze, and she took it and put it somewhere to freeze. Yea! So it got to freeze a few hours until checkout. I wish I had known this the evening before!
