Wonderful.
Liked: Food was exceptional, environment is very welcoming with plenty of lounges and open fires. The staff really made our stay. It was our 50th wedding anniversary and the staff made us very welcome.
Disliked: room lighting was very poor, no one lamp was fitted with an adequate wattage lamp. fitting led lamps is good for the environment but only fitting 4 watt lamps is not adequate. The windows which are sash style single glazed were heavily covered in condensation each morning obscuring the vista of the grounds.

Exceptional
Liked: From the moment we arrived the staff were so accommodating, we were upgraded as it was anniversary which was a lovely gesture and there were no functions on. The food was exceptional and plenty of staff on hand. The setting the hotel is in is beautiful and relaxing. I would imagine it would be different if there were functions on, but for us the peace was very welcome.
Disliked: Fo us absolutely nothing, but if you stay remember she is a beautiful old hotel with characteristics.

Terrible. 2* vibes.
Liked: Location is nice, gorgeous building, that is literally it.
Disliked: This hotel calls itself a country club and spa, it is none of those. The staff looked us up and down as we arrived (we arrived in gym gear to go straight to the gym to workout), their faces changed when they realised we were paying customers. The gym is so small, half the machines plugged in but not working, the whole thing looks tired, walls and doors seriously scuffed etc. The spa cannot describe itself as a spa, phrases I heard other guest say in the changing room. The pool was freezing, the hot tub is tiny, people were queing. We then went to get a quick snack from the brasserie, I ordered parmesan chips, I did not expect 4* hotel to literally serve me french fries with grated parmesan on top. It was giving 2* star vibes. We then had been calling reception all afternoon to find out if there was a table for their main restaurant, we were very disappointed to be told there wasn't, and offered room service from the brasserie menu, which we avoided as the food was so so basic. We ended up having to drive into East Grinstead for Valentines dinner. The whole place is dated, tired looking and it is not a 4*. They offered us turn down service, which never happened. Deeply regret wasting money on this place. I know others feel the same as heard complaints whilst we were there.

Pleasant stay.
Liked: The beautiful architecture of the hotel. And stained glass windows.
Disliked: My bath had stains down it and tiles quite dated needed a lift to be worth the price.
