Birthday treat
Liked: Beautiful location , quiet and peaceful, very good food in both restaurants, really enjoyable breakfast. I had a spa treatment sea spray detox with full body massage . Felt great after. The hotel and spa staff are friendly and helpful. First night, our radiator didn't work in the room, which was very cold, we reported it to the receptionist, and they immediately moved us to another room and upgraded us to a suite we will definitely be staying again .

Pleasant change for a nights...
Liked: Staff friendly location was lovely. Breakfast was excellent cooked to a high standard. Served in the hotel Evening meal was fine but location not ideal. Having to go outside to the spa facilities on a November night not what was expected and regrettably detracted from the evening.
Disliked: Location of evening restaurant.Point of information. The room was functional not spectacular. The Bath was high to step into and out for the shower facilities. Senior personnel may well find it difficult to cope with.

Very good
Liked: Went for a wedding, location was great, good food, staff attentive
Disliked: Some confusion around booking payment and hotel initially tried to bill higher rate than offered - resolved reasonably promptly.

Beautiful setting. Calming retreat.
Liked: Didn’t manage to make it for breakfast. Due to check out times we simply wouldn’t have had time to eat and also enjoy the spa facilities. We were told upon checking in that breakfast was served in half hour bookable slots and 9am was already gone so despite opting for 9.30 we decided to do spa instead. A shame as the cost was very high and included breakfast, but sacrifices were made.
Disliked: Nothing really bad. The hotel is beautiful. We were there for a special anniversary and my wife’s birthday and despite giving the hotel a heads up nothing was done as a gesture (they didn’t really acknowledge it until I mentioned on checking in). We were told we would likely be upgraded but again nothing was mentioned (even if they couldn’t it would have been good to know). It’s a nice to have and I guess maybe I did expect slightly more elevated service. We had booked the Forest Brasserie as Anderida wasn’t available when I went to book months in advance. We weren’t told where Forest was but were told ‘the restaurant is down the hall’. Assuming this was the one that corresponded to our booking we went there and were told we had gone to the wrong spot (having now ordered drinks would miss the start of our booking). Theyvery kindly could fit us in for Anderida (after a little back and forth). Again nothing a complaint but just the seamlessness of service wasn’t really there and I would expect that for paying £330 for a one night stay.

Great location, excellent food and...
Liked: The food was excellent in both the Brasserie and the main dining room, the latter being more formal. But the Brasserie had a more relaxed atmosphere. Although a short walk outside to the Spa centre for the Brasserie may involve bad weather! There was plenty of rooms to sit and relax and lovely views over the gardens. Also a snooker room which we took advantage of, although some of the equipment requires updating. The spa swimming pool with jacuzzi was also excellent.
Disliked: Our room was apparently an upgrade, which I presume was for the view over the gardens. But a tortured walk back to reception/dining/etc via small sets of stairs, fire doors and lots of steps (great exercise)! The room was small, no fridge, small television, a loo seat half hanging off. The bathroom was tired and required some TLC.Also the 18 hole par 3 golf course was not in good condition. The greens looked fine but poor tee areas, no fairways (just grass areas). Methinks better to have a 9 hole course and give it perhaps far more attention. Finally a bit cheeky adding 10% to everything, including buying a drink or coffee at the bar.
