With stunning architecture and amazing views you wont be looking at Appleby Castle behind red ropes you will get to experience living there. Relax by the fire in the Great Hall or in the Old Chapel as you unwind. There are 12 bedrooms in the castle and three holiday cottages each one of them is different and unique. Dine by candle light in the 15th century dining room. Our food is exquisite and our selection of wines superb with something for everyones pallet. For many the highlight of this memorable castle is the elegant dining experience in unsurpassed ambient surrounds with fantastic food on offer. The beautiful scenery of Cumbria is just part of the allure here with a vast array of activities on offer nearby; fishing horse riding falconry quad biking paint-balling gill scrambling and Appleby Golf Club (5 minutes away). A once-in-a-lifetime experience

Liked: If you're a history fan, this place clearly meets your expectations for an immersive experience. It provides a lot of paper material about the castle to read, while you can look at or touch armour, portraits and carved wood furniture. For a fee of £10 you can visit the Norman Centre next to the residence, which is curated beyond my expectations. It presents the stories of Norman Conquests and Lady Anne Clifford in a very professional way. Thank you to Craig and Mrs Nightingale for hosting me in a warm and friendly manner. I was the only one staying here for the last two days so I was a little nervous and scared, but they always comforted me. Appleby is a sparsely populated town, so you don't see many people on the roads, as well as the castle. But take it easy, scenes from horror novels don't happen here, it's a very safe place!
Disliked: When I came back to the castle at night, all the lights were switched off. Pitch black. I was scared to be honest

Good for 1 time stay

Liked: A definite for 1 time stay. Has a game room too with pool table and you will get a real feel of staying in this 12th century castle.
Disliked: Many improvements can be done but I think they are running low on funds enough to just maintain the property.

Bad

Liked: I don't know, I didn't even enter the building.
Disliked: Incessant barking from the owners dogs from the minute we got there. Asked the woman who answered the door if the barking would let up, she said "Probably at some point, its the owners dogs". My son is autistic and was losing it outside, the dogs were still barking, I told her we couldn't stay and had to book somewhere else to stay after a 3 hour drive and a very upset child.Paying guests should be afforded peace, not having their nervous system assaulted by the owners incessant barking dogs. Get them trained and under control if you're taking peoples money. There are very few noises more annoying and jarring than dogs that won't shut up.
