Liked: The location was very quiet with spacious grounds and trees. Some distance from the beach but ample car parking available at beach front.
Disliked: The car parking was a little 'tight' for a large car. However, after our first night the manager directed me to a alternative place that was just fine.

It was an expensive disappointment.

Liked: The owner/manager who greeted me was very friendly and polite. I felt very welcomed by him. I had hoped for a place by the water in town but they were sold out which is how I found this Motel. It was nestled on a cute property that was a quick drive to everything in town. It felt adequately clean in the room.
Disliked: The bad part is almost entirely comprised of the price versus the product. Everything felt small and cheap. I had just stayed for a week in Auckland in a high rise hotel with a large corner room and beautiful bathroom. By comparison The Aotearoa was $20 less per night than the Auckland hotel and was located in the middle of nowhere. The Aotearoa is the most spartan accommodation of tiny twin beds, tiny room, tiny bathroom, cheap everything from towels and beds and bedding, to the small things like the soap being the smallest cheap bar of soap and shampoo in a plastic baggie. This place is way overpriced for the product. Also no sound insulation from other guests in the hall or other rooms. I felt I was paying a city hotel rate for a backpacker quality. So all my complaints are basically on price. I think the property is way over priced for the product they offer.
