Exceptional
Liked: This accommodation was an excellent base for hiking the Abel Tasman Track. The hosts arranged our water taxis so we could walk a couple of sections of the track during our stay and this worked out perfectly. They also provided us with a tasty packed lunch for our walks. Breakfast could also be provided if required. The room we stayed in was lovely and had all required facilities. Laundry and ironing was available in a separate room and a large clothes airer was available in each room that could be put in the garden or on your terrace. Marahau is a lovely little town with a couple of excellent restaurants. My personal preference was Hooked.

Perfect location, very high quality...
Liked: This place was great. It was spotlessly clean with great customer service and facilities - in much the way you’d expect of a large expensive hotel - but was totally unpretentious and had all the charm of a low-key, out-of-the-way lodge. Really hard to fault. I think we were lucky in that our two-bed chalet had a beautiful view of the mountains and horses out back. V comfortable beds, and great daily room servicing. Tina was lovely and available any time we needed anything at all.Good kitchen facilities are important to me as I have restrictive dietary needs, and although the kitchen facilities in the room are relatively limited and we struggled to get the hob to work (fridge, toaster, combi microwave/oven and kettle v useful though), the big kitchen was supremely well kitted out (two ovens/hobs, an air fryer, and even communal food like cooking oil, seasoning, even some pasta etc), so it was easy for me to cook my own food. The jacuzzi was a treat, easy to book our 30-min slot (though no one was booked after us so we stayed an hour) and it feels really private, quiet and separate from the other rooms. Staring up at the milky way in the jacuzzi was pretty magical!Location was perfect, equidistant from “town” (ie a nice waterfront cafe and the general store/ kayak pick-up location), and from the entrance to the national park. This made it ideal for us, as I walked/ran on the trail most days, but also went out on a tour and wanted easy access to the shop. There aren’t many hotels in Marahau (there are more in Kaiteriteri) but I’m so glad we stayed here in Marahau. Felt more remote with easy national park access, but still quality, comfortable, and all the facilities needed.Lastly, the beautiful gift shop in the hotel reception was brilliant for buying a few unique and nice quality souvenirs.
Disliked: Struggled to get the hob in the room to work - but that is literally the only issue I can think of, and it didn’t matter because there are hobs in the shared kitchen.
