Not a great stay for...

Disliked: Overall the building needs a refresh and the carpet in the unit was filthy. Bathroom window didn't fully close. Unit was cold as well. For this money for one night I expected more.

Great positions, fabulous owner and...

Liked: The situation can't be faulted. A walkable distance to the picturesque Caroline bay. Ocean views from the top suites and close to shops and amenities. The apartment was spacious (2 bedrooms) and full cooking facilities with plenty of cupboard and storage space. The Host, Bali (sorry if I spelt this incorrectly) good not have been more helpful. He accommodated all of my requests and is very responsive to questions and needs.
Disliked: I told the host, Bali, that I would leave an honest review and I don't want this to be negative. He has only just taken over the place and is making great headway in upgrading and modernising this accommodation. The place is dated. Back to the 80's and desperately needs an update. New paint, Replace the carpets, Put blinds on and get rid of the old curtains etc. Cosmetic. Little things are needed that make a stay great. This goes for ALL owners or hosts that may read this. These are... salt and pepper!! coat hangers!!! Full sets of dinnerware, place mats or tablecloth, sweetener options with the tea and coffee, NOT cheap tea and coffee, NO MORE ONE PLY TOILET PAPER EVER!!! lol. An iron and ironing board in every room, free laundry facilities, a welcoming booklet in all rooms so you know where to order food if needed, power points on BOTH sides of the bed or extension cords and a multi board, Ice in the freezer for arrival, bottles water in the fridge and a choice of full cream or light milk for that arrival coffee. Fix the bedside light or put lamps in.Get new non-lumpy pillows (soft and firm for choice and plenty of them) and matching bedding and quilt covers. These are not big expensive things! These are thoughtful, considerate inclusions that make a guest know that you are truly welcomed.Take this on-board Aaron Court and you will have a winning accommodation site that I would happily stay at again. Crack open the fresh paint on the cupboards and get some couch covers from Temu! lol (PS: NOT sponsored)I will be returning to Timaru next year Bali and will look forward to the upgrades and improvements! Watch this space!

Cheap accommodation close to restaurants...

Liked: Older but budget-friendly hotel close to the Timaru CBD, supermarket, restaurants etc. Don't expect a brand-new 5-star hotel and you won't be disappointed! It's pretty dated, with obvious wear and tear but it was one of the cheapest in Timaru (apart from holiday parks) at $120 for two people (price valid at 24.10.24). So, you get what you pay for! It was noisy as it's on the main road so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. It had lots of free off-street parking which was a bonus. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook a meal. The staff member who checked us in was really nice and helpful.
Disliked: There was no hairdryer but to be fair, I didn't ask for one, so maybe they had one available at reception.

Disappointing

Liked: Pleasant staff
Disliked: Our first room was not what I thought I had booked, I thought it was a motel, apparently it was a budget studio room, the mattress was damp because it was against an outside wall of concrete. Very compact, everything supplied.Quiet until the unit next ran water, it vibrated in our little room. Managed to get another room for the following night as other guests had left, room was clean but very, very tired. Bed comfortable, extremely noisy from road noise. Chose this motel for nostalgia, stayed there in the 90's with a group on our motorbikes, but never again.
