Disliked: The 1896 O’Malley Inn’s needs a to hire a professional cleaning service for this whole place regularly. The rating is misleading. I was greeted by a huge cockroach on the outside wall just to the right of the front door upon arrival. The front door itself is in disrepair; there is a gap worn in the wood where the lock meets both doors. Inside, the first thing I noticed was how hot it was; it’s August, so why was the air conditioning not on? The floor rugs were dirty and their edges were deteriorated. There was only one staff on duty for this entire place during my weeklong stay. There is no way only one person can cook, clean, repair, shop, and do concierge services for this inn. For its size and age, it needs at least four everyday staff. The bathroom in my room (room 7) is terribly dated with a stained shower curtain and worn out shower liner. The jets in the tub are yellowed and the tub itself stained yellow so I didn’t dare sit in it and use the jets because who knows what would have come out of them? Also, in case they broke down I did not want the ownership trying to charge me. Every time I showered, I had to fight the gross, brittle shower curtain liner so it wouldn’t touch me. The towels were old, worn out, dingy, and rough. The toilet paper was so scratchy, I went and got Charmin because going to the bathroom became uncomfortable. The bathroom in my room #7 also had an old, very low height, running toilet that you have to hold the handle for it to flush. The wall panels were caked with years of filth and the plunger was sitting out in the open and disgusting. In the bedroom, the boxspring trim had fallen off to the point that it was wrapped around part of the headboard. The linens were laundered, but dated and faded as well. The TV was so small, and had to be from the 1990s that it was a strain to watch. As for the breakfast, the orange juice was watered down so badly, it was terrible!

This beautiful old house was...
Liked: Beautiful large old home with an interesting history. Clean, comfortable rooms. Several good restaurants within easy walking distance. Canal Street streetcars are also within just a few minutes walking distance and are a great way to get around the city without a car. The host knew the city well and had lots of good advice. Breakfasts were all very good. Front porch (with a porch swing) was a nice way to have a little outside time in the shade to read or just relax. Neighborhood was fairly quiet and felt safe to me.
Disliked: No view from my room. I believe I could have upgraded to have a room with a view.

Very Nice place. I will...
Liked: The house is beautiful. Breakfast every morning was very good. It was very easy to check in late, like I did. Room was very nice, with a very comfy bed. The back outside seating area was a bonus. The the fountain was a good touch. I was there for a week. The next time I'm in New Orleans, Ill be staying here for sure.
